सिंहॊरस्कं गजस्कन्धम ऋषभाक्षं मनस्विनम पाण्डुं दृष्ट्वा नरव्याघ्रं वयस्मयन्त नरा भुवि ॥ १-१०५-६ ॥
'Upon seeing Pandu, who had the chest of a lion, shoulders like an elephant, eyes of a bull, and was courageous, men on Earth were filled with wonder.' ॥ 1-105-6 ॥

कृतॊद्वाहस ततः पाण्डुर बलॊत्साह समन्वितः जिगीषमाणॊ वसुधां ययौ शत्रून अनेकशः ॥ १-१०५-७ ॥
'And, O king of kings, that best of monarchs then gave himself up to enjoyment in the company of his two wives as best he liked and to the limit of his desires. After thirty days had elapsed, the Kuru king, O monarch, started from his capital for the conquest of the world.' ॥ 1-105-7 ॥

पूर्वम आगस्कृतॊ गत्वा दशार्णाः समरे जिताः पाण्डुना नरसिंहेन कौरवाणां यशॊभृता ॥ १-१०५-८ ॥
'Before that, having gone eastward, the Bharatas conquered the Dasarnas in battle. Thus, Pandu, the lion among men, enhanced the glory of the Kauravas.' ॥ 1-105-8 ॥

ततः सेनाम उपादाय पाण्डुर नानाविध धवजाम परभूतहस्त्यश्वरथां पदातिगणसंकुलाम ॥ १-१०५-९ ॥
'He then directed his vast army, teeming with countless elephants, horsemen, foot soldiers, and charioteers, under banners of diverse hues.' ॥ 1-105-9 ॥

आगस्कृत सर्ववीराणां वैरी सर्वमहीभृताम गॊप्ता मगध राष्ट्रस्य दार्वॊ राजगृहे हतः ॥ १-१०५-१० ॥
'Pandu, confronting Dhirga— the mighty monarch of Magadha, renowned for his prowess and antagonist to many kings—assaulted him in his royal capital and vanquished him there.' ॥ 1-105-10 ॥
