अयं शांतनवः सत्यं पालयन सत्यविक्रमः बुद्धिं न कुरुते ऽपत्ये तथा राज्यानुशासने ।। १-९९-३१ ।।

'I cannot speak for your thoughts, but this is my perspective, O son. Bhishma, the son of Shantanu, committed to truth, does not desire children or kingdom for the sake of upholding truth.' ।। 1-99-31 ।।

english translation

ayaM zAMtanavaH satyaM pAlayana satyavikramaH buddhiM na kurute 'patye tathA rAjyAnuzAsane || 1-99-31 ||

'Furthermore, for the welfare of all beings, for the protection of all, and with the intention of speaking without harshness, you should listen to what I have to say and act accordingly.' ।। 1-99-33 ।।

'You must heed my words. Your younger brother has left behind two widows, comparable in their beauty to celestial maidens, youthful and exceedingly beautiful. Out of a commitment to virtue and religious duty, they wish to bear children.' ।। 1-99-34 ।।
