सतां धर्मेण धर्मज्ञः कृत्वा कर्मातिमानुषम भरातुर विचित्रवीर्यस्य विवाहायॊपचक्रमे सत्यवत्या सह मिथः कृत्वा निश्चयम आत्मवान ॥ १-९६-४६ ॥
'In adherence to the principles of righteousness, Santanu's son, having accomplished the remarkable feat in line with royal customs, initiated the arrangements for his brother's marriage. Bhishma, after finalizing the wedding details in coordination with Satyavati.' ॥ 1-96-46 ॥
english translation
satAM dharmeNa dharmajJaH kRtvA karmAtimAnuSama bharAtura vicitravIryasya vivAhAyòpacakrame satyavatyA saha mithaH kRtvA nizcayama AtmavAna ॥ 1-96-46 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविवाहं कारयिष्यन्तं भीष्मं काशिपतेः सुता जयेष्ठा तासाम इदं वाक्यम अब्रवीद धि सती तदा ॥ १-९६-४७ ॥
'As the marriage arrangements were being made, the daughters of the king of Kasi, addressing Bhishma, spoke these words, the eldest among them, with conviction:' ॥ 1-96-47 ॥

vivAhaM kArayiSyantaM bhISmaM kAzipateH sutA jayeSThA tAsAma idaM vAkyama abravIda dhi satI tadA ॥ 1-96-47 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमया सौभपतिः पूर्वं मनसाभिवृतः पतिः तेन चास्मि वृता पूर्वम एष कामश च मे पितुः ॥ १-९६-४८ ॥
'Previously, I had chosen a husband for myself in my heart, and he too had chosen me. This was also the desire of my father. This was also approved by my father.' ॥ 1-96-48 ॥

mayA saubhapatiH pUrvaM manasAbhivRtaH patiH tena cAsmi vRtA pUrvama eSa kAmaza ca me pituH ॥ 1-96-48 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमया वरयितव्यॊ ऽभूच छाल्वस तस्मिन सवयंवरे एतद विज्ञाय धर्मज्ञ ततस तवं धर्मम आचर ॥ १-९६-४९ ॥
'At the swayamvara, I would have chosen Shalva as my husband. You are well-versed in all principles of virtue. Knowing this, act as you deem fit.' ॥ 1-96-49 ॥

mayA varayitavyò 'bhUca chAlvasa tasmina savayaMvare etada vijJAya dharmajJa tatasa tavaM dharmama Acara ॥ 1-96-49 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवम उक्तस तया भीष्मः कन्यया विप्र संसदि चिन्ताम अभ्यगमद वीरॊ युक्तां तस्यैव कर्मणः ॥ १-९६-५० ॥
'Thus addressed by that maiden in the presence of the Brahmanas, the heroic Bhishma began to reflect as to what should be done.' ॥ 1-96-50 ॥
