एवं विजित्य ताः कन्या भीष्मः परहरतां वरः परययौ हास्तिनपुरं यत्र राजा स कौरवः ॥ १-९६-४१ ॥
'Bhishma, the foremost warrior, having triumphed over those kings, departed with the maidens for Hastinapura, where the virtuous Kuru prince Vichitravirya, ruling the earth like his illustrious father Santanu, resided.' ॥ 1-96-41 ॥
english translation
evaM vijitya tAH kanyA bhISmaH paraharatAM varaH parayayau hAstinapuraM yatra rAjA sa kauravaH ॥ 1-96-41 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसॊ ऽचिरेणैव कालेन अत्यक्रामन नराधिप वनानि सरितश चैव शैलांश च विविधद्रुमान ॥ १-९६-४२ ॥
'And, O king, passing through many forests, rivers, hills, and woods abounding with trees, he arrived (at the capital) in no time.' ॥ 1-96-42 ॥
english translation
sò 'cireNaiva kAlena atyakrAmana narAdhipa vanAni saritaza caiva zailAMza ca vividhadrumAna ॥ 1-96-42 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअक्षतः कषपयित्वारीन संख्ये ऽसंख्येयविक्रमः आनयाम आस काश्यस्य सुताः सागरगासुतः ॥ १-९६-४३ ॥
'Unharmed and with incomparable valor, he brought back the daughters of the King of Kashi, like the ocean brings forth its treasures.' ॥ 1-96-43 ॥
english translation
akSataH kaSapayitvArIna saMkhye 'saMkhyeyavikramaH AnayAma Asa kAzyasya sutAH sAgaragAsutaH ॥ 1-96-43 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसनुषा इव स धर्मात्मा भगिन्य इव चानुजाः यथा दुहितरश चैव परतिगृह्य ययौ कुरून ॥ १-९६-४४ ॥
'The righteous Bhishma treated them as if they were his daughters, sisters, and younger siblings, accepting them with all due respect before proceeding to the land of the Kurus.' ॥ 1-96-44 ॥

sanuSA iva sa dharmAtmA bhaginya iva cAnujAH yathA duhitaraza caiva paratigRhya yayau kurUna ॥ 1-96-44 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptताः सर्वा गुणसंपन्ना भराता भरात्रे यवीयसे भीष्मॊ विचित्रवीर्याय परददौ विक्रमाहृताः ॥ १-९६-४५ ॥
'All those maidens, endowed with virtues, were given in marriage by their brother to the illustrious Bhishma, who was renowned for his extraordinary valor.' ॥ 1-96-45 ॥
