स गत्वा पितरं तस्या वरयाम आस तां तदा पर्यपृच्छत ततस तस्याः पितरं चात्मकारणात ॥ १-९४-४६ ॥
'And repairing unto her father, the king solicited his consent to the proposed match.' ॥ 1-94-46 ॥
english translation
स च तं परत्युवाचेदं दाशराजॊ महीपतिम जातमात्रैव मे देया वराय वरवर्णिनी हृदि कामस तु मे कश चित तं निबॊध जनेश्वर ॥ १-९४-४७ ॥
'The leader of the fishermen responded to the king, "O monarch, it was understood from the moment my daughter of exceptional beauty was born that she would be given in marriage. However, I have a request that I've held in my heart."' ॥ 1-94-47 ॥
english translation
यदीमां धर्मपत्नीं तवं मत्तः परार्थयसे ऽनघ सत्यवाग असि सत्येन समयं कुरु मे ततः ॥ १-९४-४८ ॥
'If indeed, O sinless one, you seek my daughter as your lawful wife, then, being truthful as you are, make a promise to me. Keep your word.' ॥ 1-94-48 ॥
english translation
समयेन परदद्यां ते कन्याम अहम इमां नृप न हि मे तवत्समः कश चिद वरॊ जातु भविष्यति ॥ १-९४-४९ ॥
'In due time, I will give you this daughter of mine in marriage, O king. Indeed, there will be no one comparable to you in stature.' ॥ 1-94-49 ॥

[ष] शरुत्वा तव वरं दाशव्यवस्येयम अहं न वा दातव्यं चेत परदास्यामि न तव अदेयं कथं चन ॥ १-९४-५० ॥
'Santanu, upon hearing this, responded, "Once I have heard the pledge you request, I will determine if it is feasible to fulfill. If it is feasible, I will indeed grant it. Otherwise, how can I grant it?"' ॥ 1-94-50 ॥
