स देवराजसदृशॊ धर्मज्ञः सत्यवाग ऋजुः दानधर्मतपॊ यॊगाच छरिया परमया युतः ॥ १-९४-११ ॥
'He was truthful and guileless, and like the king of the celestials himself conversant with the dictates of virtue. And from the combination in him of liberality, religion, and asceticism, he acquired a great good fortune.' ॥ 1-94-11 ॥
english translation
sa devarAjasadRzò dharmajJaH satyavAga RjuH dAnadharmatapò yògAca chariyA paramayA yutaH ॥ 1-94-11 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअरागद्वेषसंयुक्तः सॊमवत परियदर्शनः तेजसा सूर्यसंकाशॊ वायुवेगसमॊ जवे अन्तकप्रतिमः कॊपे कषमया पृथिवीसमः ॥ १-९४-१२ ॥
'He was free from anger and malice and was handsome in person like Soma himself. In splendor, he was like the Sun, and in the impetuosity of valor like Vayu. In wrath he was like Yama, and in patience like the Earth.' ॥ 1-94-12 ॥

arAgadveSasaMyuktaH sòmavata pariyadarzanaH tejasA sUryasaMkAzò vAyuvegasamò jave antakapratimaH kòpe kaSamayA pRthivIsamaH ॥ 1-94-12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवधः पशुवराहाणां तथैव मृगपक्षिणाम शंतनौ पृथिवीपाले नावर्तत वृथा नृपः ॥ १-९४-१३ ॥
'And, O king, while Santanu ruled the earth, no deer, boars, birds, or other animals were needlessly slain.' ॥ 1-94-13 ॥

vadhaH pazuvarAhANAM tathaiva mRgapakSiNAma zaMtanau pRthivIpAle nAvartata vRthA nRpaH ॥ 1-94-13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधर्मब्रह्मॊत्तरे राज्ये शंतनुर विनयात्मवान समं शशास भूतानि कामरागविवर्जितः ॥ १-९४-१४ ॥
'In his dominions, the great virtue of kindness to all creatures prevailed, and the king himself, with the soul of mercy, and void of desire and wrath, extended equal protection unto all creatures.' ॥ 1-94-14 ॥

dharmabrahmòttare rAjye zaMtanura vinayAtmavAna samaM zazAsa bhUtAni kAmarAgavivarjitaH ॥ 1-94-14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेवर्षिपितृयज्ञार्थम आरभ्यन्त तदा करियाः न चाधर्मेण केषां चित पराणिनाम अभवद वधः ॥ १-९४-१५ ॥
'Then sacrifices in honor of the gods, the Rishis and Pitris commenced, and no creature was deprived of life sinfully.' ॥ 1-94-15 ॥
