वर्तमानं हि धर्मे सवे सर्वधर्मविदां वरम तं महीपा महीपालं राजराज्ये ऽभयषेचयन ॥ १-९४-६ ॥
'Indeed, abiding in his dharma, he was the best among all those versed in righteousness. Thus, the rulers of the earth, recognizing him as the supreme among kings, consecrated him as the monarch of the realm.' ॥ 1-94-6 ॥
english translation
vartamAnaM hi dharme save sarvadharmavidAM varama taM mahIpA mahIpAlaM rAjarAjye 'bhayaSecayana ॥ 1-94-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवीतशॊकभयाबाधाः सुखस्वप्नविबॊधनाः परति भारत गॊप्तारं समपद्यन्त भूमिपाः ॥ १-९४-७ ॥
'And all the kings of the earth during the time of that lord-protector of the Bharata race was without woe and fear and anxiety of any kind.' ॥ 1-94-7 ॥

vItazòkabhayAbAdhAH sukhasvapnavibòdhanAH parati bhArata gòptAraM samapadyanta bhUmipAH ॥ 1-94-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशंतनु परमुखैर गुप्ते लॊके नृपतिभिस तदा नियमात सर्ववर्णानां बरह्मॊत्तरम अवर्तत ॥ १-९४-८ ॥
'And they all slept in peace, rising from bed every morning after happy dreams. And owing to that monarch of splendid achievements resembling Indra himself in energy, all the kings of the earth became virtuous and devoted to liberality, religious acts, and sacrifices.' ॥ 1-94-8 ॥

zaMtanu paramukhaira gupte lòke nRpatibhisa tadA niyamAta sarvavarNAnAM barahmòttarama avartata ॥ 1-94-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबरह्म पर्यचरत कषत्रं विशः कषत्रम अनुव्रताः बरह्मक्षत्रानुरक्ताश च शूद्राः पर्यचरन विशः ॥ १-९४-९ ॥
'Under the rule of Shantanu and other monarchs like him, the religious virtues of all social orders flourished significantly. The Kshatriyas served the Brahmins; the Vaishyas served the Kshatriyas, and the Shudras, revering both the Brahmins and the Kshatriyas, served the Vaishyas.' ॥ 1-94-9 ॥

barahma paryacarata kaSatraM vizaH kaSatrama anuvratAH barahmakSatrAnuraktAza ca zUdrAH paryacarana vizaH ॥ 1-94-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस हास्तिनपुरे रम्ये कुरूणां पुटभेदने वसन सागरपर्यन्ताम अन्वशाद वै वसुंधराम ॥ १-९४-१० ॥
'And Santanu residing in Hastinapura, the delightful capital of the Kurus, ruled the whole earth bounded by seas.' ॥ 1-94-10 ॥
