स तस्याः संप्रमत्तायाश चॊदितः कालधर्मणा विषॊपलिप्तान दशनान भृशम अङ्गे नयपातयत ॥ १-८-१६ ॥

'In response to her carefree actions, the serpent, influenced by the inexorable course of destiny, bit her deeply on the limb, causing venom to spread through her body.'॥ 1-8-16 ॥

english translation

sa tasyAH saMpramattAyAza còditaH kAladharmaNA viSòpaliptAna dazanAna bhRzama aGge nayapAtayata ॥ 1-8-16 ॥

सा दष्टा सहसा भूमौ पतिता गतचेतना वयसुर अप्रेक्षणीयापि परेक्षणीयतमाकृतिः ॥ १-८-१७ ॥

'Stricken by the serpent's bite, she immediately fell unconscious to the ground, her complexion paled, and all the charms of her form faded away.'॥ 1-8-17 ॥

english translation

sA daSTA sahasA bhUmau patitA gatacetanA vayasura aprekSaNIyApi parekSaNIyatamAkRtiH ॥ 1-8-17 ॥

परसुप्तेवाभवच चापि भुवि सर्पविषार्दिता भूयॊ मनॊहरतरा बभूव तनुमध्यमा ॥ १-८-१८ ॥

'With disheveled hair, she became a pitiful sight for her companions and friends. The one who was once delightful to behold transformed into a distressing spectacle in her demise.The maiden, with her slender waist, lying on the ground as if in sleep, and succumbing to the serpent's venom, regained a beauty surpassing even her life.'॥ 1-8-18 ॥

ददर्श तां पिता चैव ते चैवान्ये तपस्विनः विचेष्टमानां पतितां भूतले पद्मवर्चसम ॥ १-८-१९ ॥

'And her foster father and the other holy ascetics who were there, all saw her lying motionless upon the ground with the splendor of a lotus.'॥ 1-8-19 ॥

dadarza tAM pitA caiva te caivAnye tapasvinaH viceSTamAnAM patitAM bhUtale padmavarcasama ॥ 1-8-19 ॥

ततः सर्वे दविज वराः समाजग्मुः कृपान्विताः सवस्त्य आत्रेयॊ महाजानुः कुशिकः शङ्खमेखलः ॥ १-८-२० ॥

'And then there came many noted Brahmanas filled with compassion, and they sat around her. And Swastyatreya, Mahajana, Kushika, Sankhamekhala, Uddalaka, Katha, and Sweta of great renown.'॥ 1-8-20 ॥
