ताम आश्रमपदे तस्य रुरुर दृष्ट्वा परमद्वराम बभूव किल धर्मात्मा मदनानुगतात्मवान ॥ १-८-११ ॥

'And the pious Ruru having seen Pramadvara in the hermitage of Sthulakesa became one whose heart was pierced by the god of love.'॥ 1-8-11 ॥

english translation

tAma Azramapade tasya rurura dRSTvA paramadvarAma babhUva kila dharmAtmA madanAnugatAtmavAna ॥ 1-8-11 ॥

पितरं सखिभिः सॊ ऽथ वाचयाम आस भार्गवः परमतिश चाभ्ययाच छरुत्वा सथूलकेशं यशस्विनम ॥ १-८-१२ ॥

'Ruru, with the assistance of his companions, revealed his affection to his father, Pramati, the descendant of Bhrigu. Subsequently, Pramati sought her from the renowned Sthulakesa for his son.'॥ 1-8-12 ॥

ततः परादात पिता कन्यां रुरवे तां परमद्वराम विवाहं सथापयित्वाग्रे नक्षत्रे भगदैवते ॥ १-८-१३ ॥

'And Pramati, her foster father, engaged the maiden Pramadvara to Ruru, setting the wedding for the day when the auspicious star Varga-Daivata (Purva-phalguni) would be ascendant.'॥ 1-8-13 ॥

ततः कति पयाहस्य विवाहे समुपस्थिते सखीभिः करीडती सार्धं सा कन्या वरवर्णिनी ॥ १-८-१४ ॥

'Then, as the time for the wedding approached, the fair maiden, surrounded by her friends, engaged joyfully in playful activities.'॥ 1-8-14 ॥

नापश्यत परसुप्तं वै भुजगं तिर्यग आयतम पदा चैनं समाक्रामन मुमूर्षुः कालचॊदिता ॥ १-८-१५ ॥

'She did not notice a serpent lying in a horizontal position, stretched out on the path, as she, prompted by fate, stepped over it with her foot.'॥ 1-8-15 ॥
