[षर] अधर्मात तराहि मां राजन धर्मं च परतिपादय तवत्तॊ ऽपत्यवती लॊके चरेयं धर्मम उत्तमम ॥ १-७७-२१ ॥
'Sarmishtha then pleaded, "O king, save me from dishonor and guide me towards righteousness. Let me, through you, bear offspring and thus walk the path of highest virtue in the world."' ॥ 1-77-21 ॥
english translation
तरय एवाधना राजन भार्या दासस तथा सुतः यत ते समधिपच्छन्ति यस्य ते तस्य तद धनम ॥ १-७७-२२ ॥
'"It is said, O king, that a wife, a slave, and a son cannot acquire wealth for themselves. Whatever they earn always belongs to their owner."' ॥ 1-77-22 ॥
english translation
देव यान्या भुजिष्यास्मि वश्या च तव भार्गवी सा चाहं च तवया राजन भरणीये भजस्व माम ॥ १-७७-२३ ॥
'I am truly under Devayani's dominion, and you are her sovereign. Thus, O king, you are my sovereign as much as you are Devayani's. I entreat you, please grant my desires!' ॥ 1-77-23 ॥
english translation
[व] एवम उक्तस तु राजा स तथ्यम इत्य एव जज्ञिवान पूजयाम आस शर्मिष्ठां धर्मं च परत्यपादयत ॥ १-७७-२४ ॥
'Continuing his narration, Vaisampayana stated, 'Persuaded by Sarmishtha's words, the monarch came to acknowledge the truth in all that she spoke.'' ॥ 1-77-24 ॥
english translation
समागम्य च शर्मिष्ठां यथाकामम अवाप्य च अन्यॊन्यम अभिसंपूज्य जग्मतुस तौ यथागतम ॥ १-७७-२५ ॥
'Having come together, Yayati and Sarmishtha fulfilled their desires. After mutually honoring each other, they departed just as they had arrived.' ॥ 1-77-25 ॥
