यदा दरॊणः कृतवर्मा कृपश च; कर्णॊ दरौणिर मद्रराजश च शूरः अमर्षयन सैन्धवं वध्यमानं; तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ।। १-७१-३६ ।।

sanskrit

'Do not grieve, O deity, for such is the way of the world; no mortal should mourn for what is beyond control. All the gods, the entire universe, and everything else, indeed acknowledge the inevitability of change and transformation.' ।। 1-71-36 ।।

english translation

yadA daròNaH kRtavarmA kRpaza ca; karNò darauNira madrarAjaza ca zUraH amarSayana saindhavaM vadhyamAnaM; tadA nAzaMse vijayAya saMjaya || 1-71-36 ||

hk transliteration

[देव] यस्याङ्गिरा वृद्धतमः पितामहॊ; बृहस्पतिश चापि पिता तपॊधनः ऋषेः पुत्रं तम अथॊ वापि पौत्रं; कथं न शॊचेयम अहं न रुद्याम ।। १-७१-३७ ।।

sanskrit

'[The deity said]' Why should I not grieve, O father, for him whose grandfather is the venerable Angiras, whose father is Vrihaspati, an ocean of ascetic merit, who is both the grandson of a Rishi and also Rishi's son?' ।। 1-71-37 ।।

english translation

[deva] yasyAGgirA vRddhatamaH pitAmahò; bRhaspatiza cApi pitA tapòdhanaH RSeH putraM tama athò vApi pautraM; kathaM na zòceyama ahaM na rudyAma || 1-71-37 ||

hk transliteration

स बरह्म चारी च तपॊधनश च; सदॊत्थितः कर्मसु चैव दक्षः कचस्य मार्गं परतिपत्स्ये न भॊक्ष्ये; परियॊ हि मे तात कचॊ ऽभिरूपः ।। १-७१-३८ ।।

sanskrit

'He was a true Brahmachari and an ascetic, always vigilant and proficient in all tasks. I will fast and tread the path that Kacha took. The handsome Kacha, O father, is dear to me.' ।। 1-71-38 ।।

english translation

sa barahma cArI ca tapòdhanaza ca; sadòtthitaH karmasu caiva dakSaH kacasya mArgaM paratipatsye na bhòkSye; pariyò hi me tAta kacò 'bhirUpaH || 1-71-38 ||

hk transliteration

[षुक्र] असंशयं माम असुरा दविषन्ति; ये मे शिष्यं नागसं सूदयन्ति अब्राह्मणं कर्तुम इच्छन्ति रौद्रास; ते मां यथा परस्तुतं दानवैर हि अप्य अस्य पापस्य भवेद इहान्तः; कं बरह्महत्या न दहेद अपीन्द्रम ।। १-७१-३९ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana continued, "Then, the great sage Kavya, deeply troubled by Devayani's words, exclaimed in anger, 'Indeed, the Asuras intend to harm me, as they kill my disciple who resides with me. These devotees of Rudra aim to strip me of my Brahminhood by implicating me in their heinous act. Surely, such a crime leads to a dreadful conclusion. The sin of killing a Brahmin could even scorch Indra himself."' ।। 1-71-39 ।।

english translation

[Sukra] asaMzayaM mAma asurA daviSanti; ye me ziSyaM nAgasaM sUdayanti abrAhmaNaM kartuma icchanti raudrAsa; te mAM yathA parastutaM dAnavaira hi apya asya pApasya bhaveda ihAntaH; kaM barahmahatyA na daheda apIndrama || 1-71-39 ||

hk transliteration

[व] संचॊदितॊ देव यान्या महर्षिः पुनर आह्वयत संरम्भेणैव काव्यॊ हि बृहस्पतिसुतं कचम ।। १-७१-४० ।।

sanskrit

'Having said this, the Brahmana Sukra, urged by Devayani, began to summon Kacha who had entered the jaws of Death.' ।। 1-71-40 ।।

english translation

[va] saMcòditò deva yAnyA maharSiH punara Ahvayata saMrambheNaiva kAvyò hi bRhaspatisutaM kacama || 1-71-40 ||
