गा रक्षन्तं वने दृष्ट्वा रहस्य एकम अमर्षिताः जघ्नुर बृहस्पतेर दवेषाद विद्या रक्षार्थम एव च हत्वा शाला वृकेभ्यश च परायच्छंस तिलशः कृतम ॥ १-७१-२६ ॥
'Seeing Kacha tending to the cattle in a secluded part of the forest, the Danavas, fueled by their resentment towards Brihaspati and their determination to guard the secret knowledge of revival, felt no guilt in killing a Brahmana. Driven by their animosity towards Brihaspati and eager to prevent Kacha from acquiring the knowledge of resurrection, they mercilessly murdered him. After killing him, they dismembered his body and scattered the pieces for jackals and wolves to consume.' ॥ 1-71-26 ॥

ततॊ गावॊ निवृत्तास ता अगॊपाः सवं निवेशनम ता दृष्ट्वा रहिता गास तु कचेनाभ्यागता वनात उवाच वचनं काले देव यान्य अथ भारत ॥ १-७१-२७ ॥
'And thus, the cows returned home, shepherdless, to their dwelling. Seeing the cows return from the forest without Kacha, Devayani, in due time, addressed her father, Sukra, with her concerns.' ॥ 1-71-27 ॥

अहुतं चाग्निहॊत्रं ते सूर्यश चास्तं गतः परभॊ अगॊपाश चागता गावः कचस तात न दृश्यते ॥ १-७१-२८ ॥
'The evening fire has been lit, and the sun has set, O revered one. The cows have come back but without their caretaker. Kacha, indeed, is nowhere to be seen.' ॥ 1-71-28 ॥

वयक्तं हतॊ मृतॊ वापि कचस तात भविष्यति तं विना न च जीवेयं कचं सत्यं बरवीमि ते ॥ १-७१-२९ ॥
'It is evident that Kacha has been lost or has perished. I sincerely declare, Father, that without him, I cannot go on living.' ॥ 1-71-29 ॥

[षुक्र] अयम एहीति शब्देन मृतं संजीवयाम्य अहम ॥ १-७१-३० ॥
'Sukra hearing this said, I will revive him by saying, 'Let this one come.'' ॥ 1-71-30 ॥
