बराह्मणॊ दविपदां शरेष्ठॊ गौर वरिष्ठा चतुष्पदाम गुरुर गरीयसां शरेष्ठः पुत्रः सपर्शवतां वरः ।। १-६८-५६ ।।

sanskrit

'Just as a Brahmana is the preeminent among all human beings, a cow is the most esteemed among quadrupeds, a protector holds the highest position among superiors, similarly, a son is the most cherished among all objects, delightful to the touch.' ।। 1-68-56 ।।

english translation

barAhmaNò davipadAM zareSThò gaura variSThA catuSpadAma gurura garIyasAM zareSThaH putraH saparzavatAM varaH || 1-68-56 ||

सपृशतु तवां समाश्लिष्य पुत्रॊ ऽयं परियदर्शनः पुत्र सपर्शात सुखतरः सपर्शॊ लॊके न विद्यते ।। १-६८-५७ ।।

sanskrit

'Therefore, let this handsome child embrace and touch you. There is nothing in the world more agreeable to the touch than the embrace of one's son.' ।। 1-68-57 ।।

english translation

sapRzatu tavAM samAzliSya putrò 'yaM pariyadarzanaH putra saparzAta sukhataraH saparzò lòke na vidyate || 1-68-57 ||

तरिषु वर्षेषु पूर्णेषु परजाताहम अरिंदम इमं कुमारं राजेन्द्र तव शॊकप्रणाशनम ।। १-६८-५८ ।।

sanskrit

'O vanquisher of enemies, I have brought forth this child, O monarch, who is capable of dispelling all your sorrows. I nurtured him in my womb for a complete three years.' ।। 1-68-58 ।।

tariSu varSeSu pUrNeSu parajAtAhama ariMdama imaM kumAraM rAjendra tava zòkapraNAzanama || 1-68-58 ||

आहर्ता वाजिमेधस्य शतसंख्यस्य पौरव इति वाग अन्तरिक्षे मां सूतके ऽभयवदत पुरा ।। १-६८-५९ ।।

sanskrit

'O monarch of Puru's race, 'He shall perform a hundred horse-sacrifices'--these were the words uttered from the sky when I was in the lying-in room.' ।। 1-68-59 ।।

english translation

AhartA vAjimedhasya zatasaMkhyasya paurava iti vAga antarikSe mAM sUtake 'bhayavadata purA || 1-68-59 ||

ननु नामाङ्कम आरॊप्य सनेहाद गरामान्तरं गताः मूर्ध्नि पुत्रान उपाघ्राय परतिनन्दन्ति मानवः ।। १-६८-६० ।।

'Indeed, men going into places remote from their homes take up there others' children on their laps and smelling their heads feel great happiness.' ।। 1-68-60 ।।

nanu nAmAGkama Aròpya sanehAda garAmAntaraM gatAH mUrdhni putrAna upAghrAya paratinandanti mAnavaH || 1-68-60 ||
