[षक] एवम उक्तस तया शक्रः संदिदेश सदागतिम परातिष्ठत तदा काले मेनका वायुना सह ।। १-६६-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Continuing her narration, Kanwa conveyed that Indra, upon hearing Menaka's words, instructed Vayu, the deity capable of reaching every realm, to accompany Menaka when she presented herself before the sage.' ।। 1-66-1 ।।

english translation

[Saka] evama uktasa tayA zakraH saMdideza sadAgatima parAtiSThata tadA kAle menakA vAyunA saha || 1-66-1 ||

अथापश्यद वरारॊहा तपसा दग्धकिल्बिषम विश्वामित्रं तपस्यन्तं मेनका भीरुर आश्रमे ।। १-६६-२ ।।

sanskrit

'And the timid and beautiful Menaka then entered the retreat and saw there Viswamitra who had burnt, by his penances, all his sins, and was engaged still in ascetic penances.' ।। 1-66-2 ।।

english translation

athApazyada varAròhA tapasA dagdhakilbiSama vizvAmitraM tapasyantaM menakA bhIrura Azrame || 1-66-2 ||

अभिवाद्य ततः सा तं पराक्रीडद ऋषिसंनिधौ अपॊवाह च वासॊ ऽसया मारुतः शशिसंनिभम ।। १-६६-३ ।।

sanskrit

'After offering her salutations, she then playfully approached him in the presence of the sage. And, like the moonlight carrying away the dewdrops, the wind god (Vayu) gently carried away her attire.' ।। 1-66-3 ।।

english translation

abhivAdya tataH sA taM parAkrIDada RSisaMnidhau apòvAha ca vAsò 'sayA mArutaH zazisaMnibhama || 1-66-3 ||

hk transliteration

सागच्छत तवरिता भूमिं वासस तद अभिलिङ्गती उत्स्मयन्तीव सव्रीडं मारुतं वरवर्णिनी ।। १-६६-४ ।।

sanskrit

'And she thereupon ran, as if in great bashfulness, to catch hold of her attire, and as if she was exceedingly annoyed with Marut.' ।। 1-66-4 ।।

english translation

sAgacchata tavaritA bhUmiM vAsasa tada abhiliGgatI utsmayantIva savrIDaM mArutaM varavarNinI || 1-66-4 ||

hk transliteration

गृद्धां वाससि संभ्रान्तां मेनकां मुनिसत्तमः अनिर्देश्य वयॊ रूपाम अपश्यद विवृतां तदा ।। १-६६-५ ।।

sanskrit

'In the presence of Viswamitra, radiant with fiery energy, Menaka, with boldness and grace, performed all these actions, and he observed her every move, witnessing her in that revealing posture.' ।। 1-66-5 ।।

english translation

gRddhAM vAsasi saMbhrAntAM menakAM munisattamaH anirdezya vayò rUpAma apazyada vivRtAM tadA || 1-66-5 ||
