[वै] ततॊ मृगसहस्राणि हत्वा विपुलवाहनः राजा मृगप्रसङ्गेन वनम अन्यद विवेश ह ।। १-६४-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana said, 'Then the king with his followers, having killed thousands of animals, entered another forest with a view to hunting.' ।। 1-64-1 ।।

english translation

[vai] tatò mRgasahasrANi hatvA vipulavAhanaH rAjA mRgaprasaGgena vanama anyada viveza ha || 1-64-1 ||

hk transliteration

एक एवॊत्तम बलः कषुत्पिपासा समन्वितः स वनस्यान्तम आसाद्य महद ईरिणम आसदत ।। १-६४-२ ।।

sanskrit

'And attended by a single follower and fatigued with hunger and thirst, he came upon a large desert on the frontiers of the forest.' ।। 1-64-2 ।।

english translation

eka evòttama balaH kaSutpipAsA samanvitaH sa vanasyAntama AsAdya mahada IriNama Asadata || 1-64-2 ||

hk transliteration

तच चाप्य अतीत्य नृपतिर उत्तमाश्रमसंयुतम मनः परह्लाद जननं दृष्टिकान्तम अतीव च शीतमारुत संयुक्तं जगामान्यन महद वनम ।। १-६४-३ ।।

sanskrit

'And having crossed this herbless plain, the king came upon another forest full of the retreats of ascetics, beautiful to look at, delightful to the heart and of cool agreeable breezes.' ।। 1-64-3 ।।

english translation

taca cApya atItya nRpatira uttamAzramasaMyutama manaH parahlAda jananaM dRSTikAntama atIva ca zItamAruta saMyuktaM jagAmAnyana mahada vanama || 1-64-3 ||

hk transliteration

पुष्पितैः पादपैः कीर्णम अतीव सुखशाद्वलम विपुलं मधुरारावैर नादितं विहगैस तथा ।। १-६४-४ ।।

sanskrit

'And it was full of trees covered with blossoms, the soil overgrown with the softest and greenest grass, extending for many miles around, and echoing with the sweet notes of winged warblers. And it resounded with the notes of the male Kokila and of the shrill cicala.' ।। 1-64-4 ।।

english translation

puSpitaiH pAdapaiH kIrNama atIva sukhazAdvalama vipulaM madhurArAvaira nAditaM vihagaisa tathA || 1-64-4 ||

hk transliteration

परवृद्धविटपैर वृक्षैः सुखच छायैः समावृतम षट पदाघूर्णित लतं लक्ष्म्या परमया युतम ।। १-६४-५ ।।

sanskrit

'And it was full of magnificent trees with outstretched branches forming a shady canopy overhead. And the bees hovered over flowery creepers all around. And there were beautiful bowers in every place.' ।। 1-64-5 ।।

english translation

paravRddhaviTapaira vRkSaiH sukhaca chAyaiH samAvRtama SaTa padAghUrNita lataM lakSmyA paramayA yutama || 1-64-5 ||
