एवं दवैपायनॊ जज्ञे सत्यवत्यां पराशरात दवीपे नयस्तः स यद बालस तस्माद दवैपायनॊ ऽभवत ॥ १-५७-७१ ॥
'Thus, born to Satyavati from Parashara on an island, he was named Dvaipayana, as he was born on an island.' ॥ 1-57-71 ॥
english translation
evaM davaipAyanò jajJe satyavatyAM parAzarAta davIpe nayastaH sa yada bAlasa tasmAda davaipAyanò 'bhavata ॥ 1-57-71 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपादापसारिणं धर्मं विद्वान स तु युगे युगे आयुः शक्तिं च मर्त्यानां युगानुगम अवेक्ष्य च ॥ १-५७-७२ ॥
'And the learned Dwaipayana, beholding that virtue is destined to become lame by one leg each yuga (she having four legs in all) and that the period of life and the strength of men followed the yugas.' ॥ 1-57-72 ॥
english translation
pAdApasAriNaM dharmaM vidvAna sa tu yuge yuge AyuH zaktiM ca martyAnAM yugAnugama avekSya ca ॥ 1-57-72 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबरह्मणॊ बराह्मणानां च तथानुग्रह काम्यया विव्यास वेदान यस्माच च तस्माद वयास इति समृतः ॥ १-५७-७३ ॥
'Motivated by the aspiration to gain the favor of both Brahman (the Supreme) and Brahmanas (the learned ones), he systematically organized the Vedas, earning him the appellation Vyasa, signifying the arranger or compiler.' ॥ 1-57-73 ॥

barahmaNò barAhmaNAnAM ca tathAnugraha kAmyayA vivyAsa vedAna yasmAca ca tasmAda vayAsa iti samRtaH ॥ 1-57-73 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवेदान अध्यापयाम आस महाभारत पञ्चमान सुमन्तुं जैमिनिं पैलं शुकं चैव सवम आत्मजम ॥ १-५७-७४ ॥
'The boon-giving great one then taught Sumanta, Jaimini, Paila, his son Suka, and Vaisampayana, the Vedas having the Mahabharata for their fifth.' ॥ 1-57-74 ॥

vedAna adhyApayAma Asa mahAbhArata paJcamAna sumantuM jaiminiM pailaM zukaM caiva savama Atmajama ॥ 1-57-74 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरभुर वरिष्ठॊ वरदॊ वैशम्पायनम एव च संहितास तैः पृथक्त्वेन भारतस्य परकाशिताः ॥ १-५७-७५ ॥
'The illustrious Vyasa, the best among sages, and the giver of boons, along with Vaisampayana, compiled them separately, illuminating the essence of the Mahabharata.' ॥ 1-57-75 ॥
