बरह्मणॊ बराह्मणानां च तथानुग्रह काम्यया विव्यास वेदान यस्माच च तस्माद वयास इति समृतः ॥ १-५७-७३ ॥
'Motivated by the aspiration to gain the favor of both Brahman (the Supreme) and Brahmanas (the learned ones), he systematically organized the Vedas, earning him the appellation Vyasa, signifying the arranger or compiler.' ॥ 1-57-73 ॥
