लक्षणं चैतद एवेह भविता ते नराधिप इन्द्र मालेति विख्यातं धन्यम अप्रतिमं महत ।। १-५७-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'This distinctive emblem shall be yours here, O king, Renowned as the 'Indra Mala,' a blessed and unparalleled adornment.' ।। 1-57-16 ।।

english translation

lakSaNaM caitada eveha bhavitA te narAdhipa indra mAleti vikhyAtaM dhanyama apratimaM mahata || 1-57-16 ||

hk transliteration

[व] यष्टिं च वैणवीं तस्मै ददौ वृत्रनिषूदनः इष्टप्रदानम उद्दिश्य शिष्टानां परिपालिनीम ।। १-५७-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'The slayer of Vritra (Indra) also gave the king, for his gratification, a bamboo pole for protecting the honest and the peaceful.' ।। 1-57-17 ।।

english translation

[va] yaSTiM ca vaiNavIM tasmai dadau vRtraniSUdanaH iSTapradAnama uddizya ziSTAnAM paripAlinIma || 1-57-17 ||

hk transliteration

तस्याः शक्रस्य पूजार्थं भूमौ भूमिपतिस तदा परवेशं कारयाम आस गते संवत्सरे तदा ।। १-५७-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'After the lapse of a year, the king, in reverence to the donor, namely Sakra, planted it in the ground for worship. Henceforth, O monarch, emulating Vasu's practice, all kings started the tradition of planting a pole for the observance of Indra's worship.' ।। 1-57-18 ।।

english translation

tasyAH zakrasya pUjArthaM bhUmau bhUmipatisa tadA paravezaM kArayAma Asa gate saMvatsare tadA || 1-57-18 ||

hk transliteration

ततः परभृति चाद्यापि यष्ट्याः कषितिप सत्तमैः परवेशः करियते राजन यथा तेन परवर्तितः ।। १-५७-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'Even today, O distinguished king, the noble continue to observe the ceremonial planting of the sacrificial post on the earth with great solemnity, just as it was instituted by him.' ।। 1-57-19 ।।

english translation

tataH parabhRti cAdyApi yaSTyAH kaSitipa sattamaiH paravezaH kariyate rAjana yathA tena paravartitaH || 1-57-19 ||

hk transliteration

अपरे दयुस तथा चास्याः करियते उच्छ्रयॊ नृपैः अलंकृतायाः पिटकैर गन्धैर माल्यैश च भूषणैः माल्यदाम परिक्षिप्ता विधिवत करियते ऽपि च ।। १-५७-२० ।।

sanskrit

'Following the erection of the pole, they adorned it with golden cloth, fragrances, garlands, and various ornaments. The god Vasava is then worshipped in the proper manner, adorned with these garlands and ornaments' ।। 1-57-20 ।।

english translation

apare dayusa tathA cAsyAH kariyate ucchrayò nRpaiH alaMkRtAyAH piTakaira gandhaira mAlyaiza ca bhUSaNaiH mAlyadAma parikSiptA vidhivata kariyate 'pi ca || 1-57-20 ||
