[रत्विजह] अस्ति राजन महत सत्रं तवदर्थं देवनिर्मितम सर्पसत्रम इति खयातं पुराणे कथ्यते नृप ॥ १-४७-६ ॥
'The chief priest answered, 'There is, O king, a great sacrifice for thee devised by the gods themselves. It is known as the snakesacrifice, and is read of in the Puranas.' ॥ 1-47-6 ॥
english translation
आहर्ता तस्य सत्रस्य तवन नान्यॊ ऽसति नराधिप इति पौराणिकाः पराहुर अस्माकं चास्ति स करतुः ॥ १-४७-७ ॥
'No one but you, O ruler of men, can perform this yajna. It is proclaimed in the scriptures, and they affirm that you are the designated performer.' ॥ 1-47-7 ॥
english translation
[स] एवम उक्तः स राजर्षिर मेने सर्पं हि तक्षकम हुताशनमुखं दीप्तं परविष्टम इति सत्तम ॥ १-४७-८ ॥
'Sauti continued, 'Upon hearing these words, the king, O noble one, envisaged Takshaka as if he were already consumed and cast into the voracious flames of Agni, the devourer of sacrificial offerings.' ॥ 1-47-8 ॥
english translation
ततॊ ऽबरवीन मन्त्रविदस तान राजा बराह्मणांस तदा आहरिष्यामि तत सत्रं संभाराः संभ्रियन्तु मे ॥ १-४७-९ ॥
'The king then said unto those Brahmanas versed in mantras, 'I shall make preparations for that sacrifice. Tell me the necessary things.' ॥ 1-47-9 ॥
english translation
ततस ते ऋत्विजस तस्य शास्त्रतॊ दविजसत्तम देशं तं मापयाम आसुर यज्ञायतन कारणात यथावज जञानविदुषः सर्वे बुद्ध्या परं गताः ॥ १-४७-१० ॥
'And the king's Ritwiks, O excellent Brahmana, versed in the Vedas and acquainted with the rites of that sacrifice measured, according to the scriptures, the land for the sacrificial platform. And the platform was decked with valuable articles and with Brahmanas.' ॥ 1-47-10 ॥
