ऋतुकाले ततः सनाता कदा चिद वासुकेः सवसा भर्तारं तं यथान्यायम उपतस्थे महामुनिम ॥ १-४३-११ ॥

'And one day, after the menstrual period, the sister of Vasuki, having purified herself by a bath according to custom, approached her lord the great Muni; And thereupon she conceived.' ॥ 1-43-11 ॥

english translation

RtukAle tataH sanAtA kadA cida vAsukeH savasA bhartAraM taM yathAnyAyama upatasthe mahAmunima ॥ 1-43-11 ॥

तत्र तस्याः समभवद गर्भॊ जवलनसंनिभः अतीव तपसा युक्तॊ वैश्वानरसमद्युतिः शुक्लपक्षे यथा सॊमॊ वयवर्धत तथैव सः ॥ १-४३-१२ ॥

'And the embryo was like unto a flame of fire, possessed of great energy, and resplendent as fire itself. And it grew like the moon in the bright fortnight.' ॥ 1-43-12 ॥

english translation

tatra tasyAH samabhavada garbhò javalanasaMnibhaH atIva tapasA yuktò vaizvAnarasamadyutiH zuklapakSe yathA sòmò vayavardhata tathaiva saH ॥ 1-43-12 ॥

ततः कतिपयाहस्य जरत्कारुर महातपाः उत्सङ्गे ऽसयाः शिरः कृत्वा सुष्वाप परिखिन्नवत ॥ १-४३-१३ ॥

'One day, shortly thereafter, the renowned Jaratkaru, resting his head on his wife's lap, slept, appearing as someone weary.' ॥ 1-43-13 ॥

tataH katipayAhasya jaratkArura mahAtapAH utsaGge 'sayAH ziraH kRtvA suSvApa parikhinnavata ॥ 1-43-13 ॥

तस्मिंश च सुप्ते विप्रेन्द्रे सवितास्तम इयाद गिरिम अह्नः परिक्षये बरह्मंस ततः साचिन्तयत तदा वासुकेर भगिनी भीता धर्मलॊपान मनस्विनी ॥ १-४३-१४ ॥

'And as he was sleeping, the sun entered his chambers in the Western mountain and was about to set. And, O Brahmana, as the day was fading, she, the excellent sister of Vasuki, became thoughtful, fearing the loss of her husband's virtue.' ॥ 1-43-14 ॥

english translation

tasmiMza ca supte viprendre savitAstama iyAda girima ahnaH parikSaye barahmaMsa tataH sAcintayata tadA vAsukera bhaginI bhItA dharmalòpAna manasvinI ॥ 1-43-14 ॥

किं नु मे सुकृतं भूयाद भर्तुर उत्थापनं न वा दुःखशीलॊ हि धर्मात्मा कथं नास्यापराध्नुयाम ॥ १-४३-१५ ॥

'And she thought, 'What should I now do? Shall I wake my husband or not? He is exacting and punctilious in his religious duties. How can I act as not to offend him?' ॥ 1-43-15 ॥

kiM nu me sukRtaM bhUyAda bhartura utthApanaM na vA duHkhazIlò hi dharmAtmA kathaM nAsyAparAdhnuyAma ॥ 1-43-15 ॥
