कॊपॊ वा धर्मशीलस्य धर्मलॊपॊ ऽथ वा पुनः धर्मलॊपॊ गरीयान वै सयाद अत्रेत्य अकरॊन मनः ॥ १-४३-१६ ॥

'The options are either enduring his wrath or witnessing the erosion of virtue in a righteous man. The latter, I believe, is the graver of the two evils.' ॥ 1-43-16 ॥

english translation

kòpò vA dharmazIlasya dharmalòpò 'tha vA punaH dharmalòpò garIyAna vai sayAda atretya akaròna manaH ॥ 1-43-16 ॥

उत्थापयिष्ये यद्य एनं धरुवं कॊपं करिष्यति धर्मलॊपॊ भवेद अस्य संध्यातिक्रमणे धरुवम ॥ १-४३-१७ ॥

'However, should I awaken him, he may become angered. Yet, if the dawn fades without his performing the prescribed prayers, he will undoubtedly suffer a loss of virtue.' ॥ 1-43-17 ॥

utthApayiSye yadya enaM dharuvaM kòpaM kariSyati dharmalòpò bhaveda asya saMdhyAtikramaNe dharuvama ॥ 1-43-17 ॥

इति निश्चित्य मनसा जरत्कारुर भुजंगमा तम ऋषिं दीप्ततपसं शयानम अनलॊपमम उवाचेदं वचः शलक्ष्णं ततॊ मधुरभाषिणी ॥ १-४३-१८ ॥

'And having resolved at last, the sweet-speeches Jaratkaru, the sister of Vasuki, spake softly unto that Rishi resplendent with ascetic penances, and lying prostrate like a flame of fire.' ॥ 1-43-18 ॥

iti nizcitya manasA jaratkArura bhujaMgamA tama RSiM dIptatapasaM zayAnama analòpamama uvAcedaM vacaH zalakSNaM tatò madhurabhASiNI ॥ 1-43-18 ॥

उत्तिष्ठ तवं महाभाग सूर्यॊ ऽसतम उपगच्छति संध्याम उपास्स्व भगवन्न अपः सपृष्ट्वा यतव्रतः ॥ १-४३-१९ ॥

'O greatly fortunate one, awaken; the sun is setting. O illustrious sage of unwavering vows, purify yourself with water and then perform your evening prayers, invoking the name of Vishnu.' ॥ 1-43-19 ॥

uttiSTha tavaM mahAbhAga sUryò 'satama upagacchati saMdhyAma upAssva bhagavanna apaH sapRSTvA yatavrataH ॥ 1-43-19 ॥

परादुष्कृताग्निहॊत्रॊ ऽयं मुहूर्तॊ रम्यदारुणः संध्या परवर्तते चेयं पश्चिमायां दिशि परभॊ ॥ १-४३-२० ॥

'The time for the evening sacrifice hath come. Twilight, O lord, is even now gently covering the western side.' ॥ 1-43-20 ॥
