शयनं तत्र वै कॢप्तं सपर्ध्यास्तरण संवृतम तत्र भार्या सहायः स जरत्कारुर उवास ह ॥ १-४३-६ ॥
'And in that chamber was a bed-stead covered with very valuable coverlets. And Jaratkaru lived there with his wife.' ॥ 1-43-6 ॥
english translation
zayanaM tatra vai klRptaM sapardhyAstaraNa saMvRtama tatra bhAryA sahAyaH sa jaratkArura uvAsa ha ॥ 1-43-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस तत्र समयं चक्रे भार्यया सह सत्तमः विप्रियं मे न कर्तव्यं न च वाच्यं कदा चन ॥ १-४३-७ ॥
'And the excellent Rishi made an agreement with his wife, saying, 'Nothing must ever be done or said by thee that is against my liking.' ॥ 1-43-7 ॥
english translation
sa tatra samayaM cakre bhAryayA saha sattamaH vipriyaM me na kartavyaM na ca vAcyaM kadA cana ॥ 1-43-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतयजेयम अप्रिये हि तवां कृते वासं च ते गृहे एतद गृहाण वचनं मया यत समुदीरितम ॥ १-४३-८ ॥
'And in case of thy doing any such thing, I will leave thee and no longer continue to stay in thy house. Bear in mind these words that have been spoken by me.' ॥ 1-43-8 ॥
english translation
tayajeyama apriye hi tavAM kRte vAsaM ca te gRhe etada gRhANa vacanaM mayA yata samudIritama ॥ 1-43-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः परमसंविग्ना सवसा नागपतेस तु सा अतिदुःखान्विता वाचं तम उवाचैवम अस्त्व इति ॥ १-४३-९ ॥
'In profound distress and profound sorrow, the sister of the king of snakes spoke to him, saying, 'Let it be as you wish.'" ॥ 1-43-9 ॥
english translation
tataH paramasaMvignA savasA nAgapatesa tu sA atiduHkhAnvitA vAcaM tama uvAcaivama astva iti ॥ 1-43-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतथैव सा च भर्तारं दुःखशीलम उपाचरत उपायैः शवेतकाकीयैः परियकामा यशस्विनी ॥ १-४३-१० ॥
'And moved by the desire of doing good to her relatives, that damsel, of unsullied reputation, began to attend upon her lord with the wakefulness of a dog, the timidity of a deer, and knowledge of signs possessed by the crow.' ॥ 1-43-10 ॥

tathaiva sA ca bhartAraM duHkhazIlama upAcarata upAyaiH zavetakAkIyaiH pariyakAmA yazasvinI ॥ 1-43-10 ॥
