[स] वासुकिस तव अब्रवीद वाक्यं जरत्कारुम ऋषिं तदा सनामा तव कन्येयं सवसा मे तपसान्विता ॥ १-४३-१ ॥
'Sauti narrated, 'Vasuki then addressed the sage Jaratkaru, saying, 'O eminent Brahmana, this maiden shares your name. She is my sister and possesses the virtues of asceticism.'" ॥ 1-43-1 ॥
english translation
[sa] vAsukisa tava abravIda vAkyaM jaratkAruma RSiM tadA sanAmA tava kanyeyaM savasA me tapasAnvitA ॥ 1-43-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभरिष्यामि च ते भार्यां परतीच्छेमां दविजॊत्तम रक्षणं च करिष्ये ऽसयाः सर्वशक्त्या तपॊधन ॥ १-४३-२ ॥
'I will look after your wife; please accept her. O possessor of ascetic wealth, I am committed to safeguarding her to the best of my abilities. O eminent sage among the great Munis, she has been nurtured by me for you.' ॥ 1-43-2 ॥

bhariSyAmi ca te bhAryAM paratIcchemAM davijòttama rakSaNaM ca kariSye 'sayAH sarvazaktyA tapòdhana ॥ 1-43-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरतिश्रुते तु नागेन भरिष्ये भगिनीम इति जरत्कारुस तदा वेश्म भुजगस्य जगाम ह ॥ १-४३-३ ॥
'Sauti continued, 'When the snake had promised, saying, 'I shall maintain my sister,' Jaratkaru then went to the snake's house.' ॥ 1-43-3 ॥

paratizrute tu nAgena bhariSye bhaginIma iti jaratkArusa tadA vezma bhujagasya jagAma ha ॥ 1-43-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र मन्त्रविदां शरेष्ठस तपॊवृद्धॊ महाव्रतः जग्राह पाणिं धर्मात्मा विधिमन्त्रपुरस्कृतम ॥ १-४३-४ ॥
'At that moment, the foremost Brahmana, well-versed in mantras, dedicated to austere practices, a virtuous and experienced ascetic, accepted the hand of the maiden, presented to him in accordance with the scriptural rites.' ॥ 1-43-4 ॥

tatra mantravidAM zareSThasa tapòvRddhò mahAvrataH jagrAha pANiM dharmAtmA vidhimantrapuraskRtama ॥ 1-43-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ वासगृहं शुभ्रं पन्नगेन्द्रस्य संमतम जगाम भार्याम आदाय सतूयमानॊ महर्षिभिः ॥ १-४३-५ ॥
'And taking his bride with him, adored by the great Rishi, he entered the delightful chamber set apart for him by the king of the snakes.' ॥ 1-43-5 ॥

tatò vAsagRhaM zubhraM pannagendrasya saMmatama jagAma bhAryAma AdAya satUyamAnò maharSibhiH ॥ 1-43-5 ॥
