के भवन्तॊ ऽवलम्बन्ते वीरणस्तम्बम आश्रिताः दुर्बलं खादितैर मूलैर आखुना बिलवासिना ॥ १-४१-६ ॥
'By what means are you suspended, relying on this strand of Virana roots? The sole remaining feeble root in this cord, already devoured by the rat, holds your precarious position.' ॥ 1-41-6 ॥
english translation
वीरणस्तम्बके मूलं यद अप्य एकम इह सथितम तद अप्य अयं शनैर आखुर आदत्ते दशनैः शितैः ॥ १-४१-७ ॥
'Even the one remaining root in this Virana palm tree, which is situated here, is gradually being gnawed by ten sharp-toothed rats.' ॥ 1-41-7 ॥
english translation
छेत्स्यते ऽलपावशिष्टत्वाद एतद अप्य अचिराद इव ततः सथ पतितारॊ ऽतर गर्ते अस्मिन्न अधॊमुखाः ॥ १-४१-८ ॥
'It is evident that you will inevitably descend into this pit with your faces turned downward. Witnessing you in such a plight, overwhelmed by this great calamity, my compassion has been stirred.' ॥ 1-41-8 ॥

ततॊ मे दुःखम उत्पन्नं दृष्ट्वा युष्मान अधॊमुखान कृच्छ्राम आपदम आपन्नान परियं किं करवाणि वः ॥ १-४१-९ ॥
'Upon witnessing your distress with faces turned downward, my sorrow has arisen. Having encountered this adversity, what assistance can I provide to all of you in your plight?' ॥ 1-41-9 ॥

तपसॊ ऽसय चतुर्थेन तृतीयेनापि वा पुनः अर्धेन वापि निस्तर्तुम आपदं बरूत माचिरम ॥ १-४१-१० ॥
'Quickly inform me whether this calamity can be averted by sacrificing a fourth, a third, or even half of my asceticism. If necessary, relieve yourselves even with the entirety of my ascetic practices. I consent to all possibilities; do as you see fit.' ॥ 1-41-10 ॥
