वयं तस्य नरेन्द्रस्य विषये निवसामहे नयायतॊ रक्षितास तेन तस्य पापं न रॊचये ॥ १-३७-२१ ॥
'In the matter concerning that king, we dwell neutrally. We, being just, shall not condone his misdeeds.' ॥ 1-37-21 ॥
english translation
vayaM tasya narendrasya viSaye nivasAmahe nayAyatò rakSitAsa tena tasya pApaM na ròcaye ॥ 1-37-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वथा वर्तमानस्य राज्ञॊ हय अस्मद्विधैः सदा कषन्तव्यं पुत्र धर्मॊ हि हतॊ हन्ति न संशयः ॥ १-३७-२२ ॥
'Indeed, the righteous path must always be followed, for a son must bear with the actions of his father, without a doubt.' ॥ 1-37-22 ॥
english translation
sarvathA vartamAnasya rAjJò haya asmadvidhaiH sadA kaSantavyaM putra dharmò hi hatò hanti na saMzayaH ॥ 1-37-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयदि राजा न रक्षेत पीडा वै नः परा भवेत न शक्नुयाम चरितुं धर्मं पुत्र यथासुखम ॥ १-३७-२३ ॥
'The reigning king should be forgiven in all his actions by people like us. If he neglects Dharma, Dharma will, in turn, destroy him. If the king fails to protect us adequately, we suffer greatly, and our ability to perform religious rites according to our wishes is hindered.' ॥ 1-37-23 ॥
english translation
yadi rAjA na rakSeta pIDA vai naH parA bhaveta na zaknuyAma carituM dharmaM putra yathAsukhama ॥ 1-37-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptरक्ष्यमाणा वयं तात राजभिः शास्त्रदृष्टिभिः चरामॊ विपुलं धर्मं तेषां चांशॊ ऽसति धर्मतः ॥ १-३७-२४ ॥
'We, O father, are protected by the kings following the principles of scriptures. We should adhere to an extensive code of conduct, and their adherence to righteous principles supports the existence of righteousness.' ॥ 1-37-24 ॥
english translation
rakSyamANA vayaM tAta rAjabhiH zAstradRSTibhiH carAmò vipulaM dharmaM teSAM cAMzò 'sati dharmataH ॥ 1-37-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरिक्षित तु विशेषेण यथास्य परपितामहः रक्षत्य अस्मान यथा राज्ञा रक्षितव्याः परजास तथा ॥ १-३७-२५ ॥
'And Parikshit like unto his great-grandsire, protecteth us as a king should protect his subjects.' ॥ 1-37-25 ॥

parikSita tu vizeSeNa yathAsya parapitAmahaH rakSatya asmAna yathA rAjJA rakSitavyAH parajAsa tathA ॥ 1-37-25 ॥
