[स] एवम उक्तः स तेजस्वी शृङ्गी कॊपसमन्वितः मृतधारं गुरुं शरुत्वा पर्यतप्यत मन्युना ॥ १-३७-१ ॥

'Sauti said, 'Being thus addressed, and hearing that his sire was bearing a dead snake, the powerful Sringin burned with wrath.' ॥ 1-37-1 ॥

स तं कृशम अभिप्रेष्क्य सूनृतां वाचम उत्सृजन अपृच्छत कथं तातः स मे ऽदय मृतधारकः ॥ १-३७-२ ॥

'Looking at Krisa and speaking in a soft tone, he inquired, "Why is my father carrying a dead snake today?"' ॥ 1-37-2 ॥

कृष] राज्ञा परिक्षिता तात मृगयां परिधावता अवसक्तः पितुस ते ऽदय मृतः सकन्धे भुजंगमः ॥ १-३७-३ ॥

'Krisa responded, 'As King Parikshit was engaged in hunting, he happened to place the dead snake on the shoulder of your father.'' ॥ 1-37-3 ॥

[षृन्गी] किं मे पित्रा कृतं तस्य राज्ञॊ ऽनिष्टं दुरात्मनः बरूहि तवं कृश तत्त्वेन पश्य मे तपसॊ बलम ॥ १-३७-४ ॥

'And Sringin asked, 'What wrong was done to that wicked monarch by my father? O Krisa, tell me this, and witness the power of my asceticism.' ॥ 1-37-4 ॥

[क] स राजा मृगयां यातः परिक्षिद अभिमन्युजः ससार मृगम एकाकी विद्ध्वा बाणेन पत्रिणा ॥ १-३७-५ ॥

'And Krisa answered, 'King Parikshit, the son of Abhimanyu while hunting, had wounded a fleet stag with an arrow and chased it alone.' ॥ 1-37-5 ॥
