स कदा चिन मृगं विद्ध्वा बाणेन नतपर्वणा पृष्ठतॊ धनुर आदाय ससार गहने वने ॥ १-३६-११ ॥
'One day, having pierced a deer with a sharp arrow and slung his bow on his back, he penetrated the deep forest.' ॥ 1-36-11 ॥
english translation
यथा हि भगवान रुद्रॊ विद्ध्वा यज्ञमृगं दिवि अन्वगच्छद धनुष्पाणिः पर्यन्वेषंस ततस ततः ॥ १-३६-१२ ॥
'Searching for the animal here and there, like the illustrious Rudra himself of old pursuing in the heavens, bow in hand, the deer which was Sacrifice.' ॥ 1-36-12 ॥
english translation
न हि तेन मृगॊ विद्धॊ जीवन गच्छति वै वनम पूर्वरूपं तु तन नूनम आसीत सवर्गगतिं परति परिक्षितस तस्य राज्ञॊ विद्धॊ यन नष्टवान मृगः ॥ १-३६-१३ ॥
'The deer, having been struck by Parikshit's arrow, transformed into its original shape. Unlike other deer previously pierced by him, this wounded deer managed to escape swiftly in the forest, serving as the proximate cause for the king's attainment to heaven.' ॥ 1-36-13 ॥
english translation
दूरं चापहृतस तेन मृगेण स महीपतिः परिश्रान्तः पिपासार्त आससाद मुनिं वने ॥ १-३६-१४ ॥
'And the deer that Parikshit--that king of men--had pierced was lost to his gaze and drew the monarch far away into the forest. And fatigued and thirsty, he came across a Muni.' ॥ 1-36-14 ॥
english translation
गवां परचारेष्व आसीनं वत्सानां मुखनिःसृतम भूयिष्ठम उपयुञ्जानं फेनम आपिबतां पयः ॥ १-३६-१५ ॥
'Sitting among the grazing cows, the sage was enjoying the fresh green grass. He, being most compassionate, offered the frothy milk to the thirsty calves.' ॥ 1-36-15 ॥
