तम अभिद्रुत्य वेगेन स राजा संशितव्रतम अपृच्छद धनुर उद्यम्य तं मुनिं कषुच्छ्रमान्वितः ।। १-३६-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'And approaching him hastily, the monarch, hungry and fatigued, and raising his bow, asked that Muni of rigid vows.' ।। 1-36-16 ।।

english translation

tama abhidrutya vegena sa rAjA saMzitavratama apRcchada dhanura udyamya taM muniM kaSucchramAnvitaH || 1-36-16 ||

hk transliteration

भॊ भॊ बरह्मन्न अहं राजा परिक्षिद अभिमन्युजः मया विद्धॊ मृगॊ नष्टः कच चित तवं दृष्टवान असि ।। १-३६-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'Addressing the Brahmana, he said, 'I am King Parikshit, the son of Abhimanyu. A deer wounded by my arrow has gone missing. Have you seen it?' ।। 1-36-17 ।।

english translation

bhò bhò barahmanna ahaM rAjA parikSida abhimanyujaH mayA viddhò mRgò naSTaH kaca cita tavaM dRSTavAna asi || 1-36-17 ||

hk transliteration

स मुनिस तस्य नॊवाच किं चिन मौन वरते सथितः तस्य सकन्धे मृतं सर्पं करुद्धॊ राजा समासजत ।। १-३६-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'But that Muni observing then the vow of silence, spoke not unto him a word. And the king in anger thereupon placed upon his shoulder a dead snake.' ।। 1-36-18 ।।

english translation

sa munisa tasya nòvAca kiM cina mauna varate sathitaH tasya sakandhe mRtaM sarpaM karuddhò rAjA samAsajata || 1-36-18 ||

hk transliteration

धनुष्कॊट्या समुत्क्षिप्य स चैनं समुदैक्षत न च किं चिद उवाचैनं शुभं वा यदि वाशुभम ।। १-३६-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'The king picked up the dead serpent with the end of his bow, and the sage allowed him to do so without any objection. The sage remained silent and did not utter a word, whether good or bad.' ।। 1-36-19 ।।

english translation

dhanuSkòTyA samutkSipya sa cainaM samudaikSata na ca kiM cida uvAcainaM zubhaM vA yadi vAzubhama || 1-36-19 ||

hk transliteration

स राजा करॊधम उत्सृज्य वयथितस तं तथागतम दृष्ट्वा जगाम नगरम ऋषिस तव आस्ते तथैव सः ।। १-३६-२० ।।

sanskrit

'And the king seeing him in that state, cast off his anger and became sorry. And he returned to his capital.' ।। 1-36-20 ।।

english translation

sa rAjA karòdhama utsRjya vayathitasa taM tathAgatama dRSTvA jagAma nagarama RSisa tava Aste tathaiva saH || 1-36-20 ||
