तम उपाध्यायः परत्युवाच नैषा नयाय्या गुरुवृत्तिः अन्येषाम अपि वृत्त्युपरॊधं करॊष्य एवं वर्तमानः लुब्धॊ ऽसीति ।। १-३-४१ ।।

sanskrit

'The teacher responded, "This is not an appropriate way of the teacher's life. Suppressing others' livelihoods is not the path to follow. Conduct yourself differently. You should not act out of greed." ' ।। 1-3-41 ।।

english translation

tama upAdhyAyaH paratyuvAca naiSA nayAyyA guruvRttiH anyeSAma api vRttyuparòdhaM karòSya evaM vartamAnaH lubdhò 'sIti || 1-3-41 ||

स तथेत्य उक्त्वा गा अरक्षत रक्षित्वा च पुनर उपाध्याय गृहम आगम्यॊपाध्यायस्याग्रतः सथित्वा नमश चक्रे ।। १-३-४२ ।।

sanskrit

'Having said this, he continued to tend to the cows. After safeguarding them once again, Upamanyu returned to the teacher's home. Standing in front of the teacher, he paid his respects. ' ।। 1-3-42 ।।

english translation

sa tathetya uktvA gA arakSata rakSitvA ca punara upAdhyAya gRhama AgamyòpAdhyAyasyAgrataH sathitvA namaza cakre || 1-3-42 ||

तम उपाध्यायस तथापि पीवानम एव दृष्ट्वा पुनर उवाच अहं ते सर्वं भैक्षं गृह्णामि न चान्यच चरसि पीवान असि केन वृत्तिं कल्पयसीति ।। १-३-४३ ।।

sanskrit

'Observing that Upamanyu remained well-fed despite no longer relying on alms or returning for a second round of begging, his preceptor affectionately remarked, "Upamanyu, my dear child, you've ceased partaking in alms, refrained from seeking more, and even stopped drinking milk. Yet, you remain robust and well-nourished." ' ।। 1-3-43 ।।

english translation

tama upAdhyAyasa tathApi pIvAnama eva dRSTvA punara uvAca ahaM te sarvaM bhaikSaM gRhNAmi na cAnyaca carasi pIvAna asi kena vRttiM kalpayasIti || 1-3-43 ||
