स एवम उक्त उपाध्यायेनेष्टं देशं जगाम ॥ १-३-३१ ॥
'Thus addressed by the teacher, he proceeded to the desired place.' ॥ 1-3-31 ॥

sa evama ukta upAdhyAyeneSTaM dezaM jagAma ॥ 1-3-31 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथापरः शिष्यस तस्यैवायॊदस्य दौम्यस्यॊपमन्युर नाम ॥ १-३-३२ ॥
'Then, another disciple of his, named Upamanyu, approached with reverence.' ॥ 1-3-32 ॥

athAparaH ziSyasa tasyaivAyòdasya daumyasyòpamanyura nAma ॥ 1-3-32 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतम उपाध्यायः परेषयाम आस वत्सॊपमन्यॊ गा रक्षस्वेति ॥ १-३-३३ ॥
'The teacher addressed him in the assembly, "Dear Upamanyu, take care of the cows and protect them."' ॥ 1-3-33 ॥

tama upAdhyAyaH pareSayAma Asa vatsòpamanyò gA rakSasveti ॥ 1-3-33 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस उपाध्याय वचनाद अरक्षद गाः स चाहनि गा रक्षित्वा दिवसक्षये ऽभयागम्यॊपाध्यायस्याग्रतः सथित्वा नमश चक्रे ॥ १-३-३४ ॥
'He, following the teacher's instructions, guarded the cows. After protecting the cows and gaining their trust day by day, Upamanyu approached the teacher with reverence, standing in front of him, and paid his respects.' ॥ 1-3-34 ॥

sa upAdhyAya vacanAda arakSada gAH sa cAhani gA rakSitvA divasakSaye 'bhayAgamyòpAdhyAyasyAgrataH sathitvA namaza cakre ॥ 1-3-34 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतम उपाध्यायः पीवानम अपश्यत उवाच चैनम वत्सॊपमन्यॊ केन वृत्तिं कल्पयसि पीवान असि दृढम इति ॥ १-३-३५ ॥
'Observing Upamanyu drinking water, the teacher questioned him, "Upamanyu, what secret source of strength empowers your unwavering resolve as you quench your thirst?" ' ॥ 1-3-35 ॥

tama upAdhyAyaH pIvAnama apazyata uvAca cainama vatsòpamanyò kena vRttiM kalpayasi pIvAna asi dRDhama iti ॥ 1-3-35 ॥
