ततॊ ऽहं पांसुना छिद्रम अपिधास्यामि पुत्रकाः एवं परतिकृतं मन्ये जवलतः कृष्णवर्त्मनः ॥ १-२२१-१६ ॥
'Once you have entered, my children, I will cover its mouth with dust. This is the only way I see to escape from the blazing fire.' ॥ 1-221-16 ॥

तत एष्याम्य अतीते ऽगनौ विहर्तुं पांसुसंचयम रॊचताम एष वॊपायॊ विमॊक्षाय हुताशनात ॥ १-२२१-१७ ॥
'After the fire is extinguished, I will come back to clear away the dust from here. Follow my advice if you wish to escape the fire.' ॥ 1-221-17 ॥

[षार्न्गकाह] अबर्हान मांसभूतान नः करव्यादाखुर विनाशयेत पश्यमाना भयम इदं न शक्ष्यामॊ निषेवितुम ॥ १-२२१-१८ ॥
'The infant birds (Sharngakas) replied, "The carnivorous rat would destroy us who are made of flesh. Seeing this danger, we will not be able to stay here."' ॥ 1-221-18 ॥

कथम अग्निर न नॊ दह्यात कथम आखुर न भक्षयेत कथं न सयात पिता मॊघः कथं माता धरियेत नः ॥ १-२२१-१९ ॥
'Alas, we see no way to escape from the fire or the mouse. We do not see how our father's efforts to procreate can be saved from futility, nor how our mother can be rescued.' ॥ 1-221-19 ॥

बिल आखॊर विनाशः सयाद अग्नेर आकाशचारिणाम अन्ववेक्ष्यैतद उभयं शरेयान दाहॊ न भक्षणम ॥ १-२२१-२० ॥
'If we enter the hole, the mouse will destroy us; if we stay here, the fire roaming the sky will destroy us. Reflecting on both calamities, death by fire is preferable to being eaten alive.' ॥ 1-221-20 ॥
