असकृद भग्नसंकल्पाः सुराश च बहुशः कृताः भयाद रणं परित्यज्य शक्रम एवाभिशिश्रियुः ॥ १-२१८-४१ ॥
'The celestials repeatedly routed by Krishna and Arjuna, at last left the field of battle for fear and sought the protection of Indra.' ॥ 1-218-41 ॥

asakRda bhagnasaMkalpAH surAza ca bahuzaH kRtAH bhayAda raNaM parityajya zakrama evAbhizizriyuH ॥ 1-218-41 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदृष्ट्वा निवारितान देवान माधवेनार्जुनेन च आश्चर्यम अगमस तत्र मुनयॊ दिवि विष्ठिताः ॥ १-२१८-४२ ॥
'The sages who watched the battle from the heavens, seeing Madhava (Krishna) and Arjuna defeat the celestials, were filled with wonder.' ॥ 1-218-42 ॥

dRSTvA nivAritAna devAna mAdhavenArjunena ca Azcaryama agamasa tatra munayò divi viSThitAH ॥ 1-218-42 ॥

'Sakra, repeatedly witnessing their prowess in battle, became exceedingly gratified and once more rushed to join the assault.' ॥ 1-218-43 ॥

'The chastiser of Paka then unleashed a heavy shower of stones, seeking to test the prowess of Arjuna, who could draw the bow even with his left hand. In great wrath, Arjuna dispelled that dense shower with his arrows.' ॥ 1-218-44 ॥

tatò 'zamavarSaM sumahada vayasRjata pAkazAsanaH bhUya eva tadA vIryaM jijJAsuH savyasAcinaH taca charaira arjunò varSaM paratijaghne 'tayamarSaNaH ॥ 1-218-44 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविफलं करियमाणं तत संप्रेक्ष्य च शतक्रतुः भूयः संवर्धयाम आस तद वर्षं देवराड अथ ॥ १-२१८-४५ ॥
'Upon seeing his efforts thwarted, even Indra, the lord of gods, intensified his attack, then showered down more weapons.' ॥ 1-218-45 ॥
