[आर्ज] बरह्मचर्यम इदं भद्रे मम दवादश वार्षिकम धर्मराजेन चादिष्टं नाहम अस्मि सवयं वशः ॥ १-२०६-२१ ॥
'Arjuna replied, 'Commanded by King Yudhishthira, O amiable one, I am undergoing the vow of Brahmachari (Celibacy) for twelve years. I am not free to act in any way I like.' ॥ 1-206-21 ॥
english translation
[Arja] barahmacaryama idaM bhadre mama davAdaza vArSikama dharmarAjena cAdiSTaM nAhama asmi savayaM vazaH ॥ 1-206-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतव चापि परियं कर्तुम इच्छामि जलचारिणि अनृतं नॊक्तपूर्वं च मया किं चन कर्हि चित ॥ १-२०६-२२ ॥
'O guardian of the waters, I am eager to fulfill your wish if possible. Throughout my life, I have never spoken of an untruth. Therefore, tell me, O maiden of the Naga clan, how I may act in a way that fulfills your desire without committing any falsehood or neglect of duty.' ॥ 1-206-22 ॥

tava cApi pariyaM kartuma icchAmi jalacAriNi anRtaM nòktapUrvaM ca mayA kiM cana karhi cita ॥ 1-206-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकथं च नानृतं तत सयात तव चापि परियं भवेत न च पीड्येत मे धर्मस तथा कुर्यां भुजंगमे ॥ १-२०६-२३ ॥
'How might I speak, O serpent wise, To please you, yet not compromise The truth, nor harm my sacred duty? This balance I seek, in all its beauty.' ॥ 1-206-23 ॥
english translation
kathaM ca nAnRtaM tata sayAta tava cApi pariyaM bhaveta na ca pIDyeta me dharmasa tathA kuryAM bhujaMgame ॥ 1-206-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript[ऊलूपी] जानाम्य अहं पाण्डवेय यथा चरसि मेदिनीम यथा च ते बरह्मचर्यम इदम आदिष्टवान गुरुः ॥ १-२०६-२४ ॥
'O son of Pandu," Ulupi answered, "I understand why you are wandering the earth and why the higher authority has instructed you to live as a celibate."' ॥ 1-206-24 ॥

[UlUpI] jAnAmya ahaM pANDaveya yathA carasi medinIma yathA ca te barahmacaryama idama AdiSTavAna guruH ॥ 1-206-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरस्परं वर्तमानान दरुपदस्यात्मजां परति यॊ नॊ ऽनुप्रविशेन मॊहात स नॊ दवादश वार्षिकम वनेचरेद बरह्मचर्यम इति वः समयः कृतः ॥ १-२०६-२५ ॥
'It was agreed among all of you that if anyone, out of ignorance, entered the room where one of you was with Drupada's daughter, who is shared by all of you as wife, that person would live as a celibate in the forest for twelve years.' ॥ 1-206-25 ॥

parasparaM vartamAnAna darupadasyAtmajAM parati yò nò 'nupravizena mòhAta sa nò davAdaza vArSikama vanecareda barahmacaryama iti vaH samayaH kRtaH ॥ 1-206-25 ॥
