अत ऊर्ध्वम इदं पराहुः सत्री पर्व करुणॊदयम विलापॊ वीर पत्नीनां यत्रातिकरुणः समृतः करॊधावेशः परसादश च गान्धारी धृतराष्ट्रयॊः ।। १-२-१९१ ।।

'Then hath been described the wending of the distressed Dhritarashtra accompanied by the ladies of his house to the field of battle of the Kauravas. Here follow the pathetic wailings of the wives of the slain heroes. Then the wrath of Gandhari and Dhritarashtra and their loss of consciousness.' ।। 1-2-191 ।।

ata Urdhvama idaM parAhuH satrI parva karuNòdayama vilApò vIra patnInAM yatrAtikaruNaH samRtaH karòdhAvezaH parasAdaza ca gAndhArI dhRtarASTrayòH || 1-2-191 ||

'In that place, where the unwavering and valiant warriors were seen, the sons, brothers, and fathers lay slain on the battlefield without retreat.' ।। 1-2-192 ।।

'Subsequently, the wise and virtuous monarch, Yudhishthira, performed the cremation of the deceased kings with utmost reverence and according to the scriptural rituals.' ।। 1-2-193 ।।

'The illustrious Sage Vyasa has vividly depicted all of these events in the profoundly poignant eleventh Parva. Reading it stirs the emotions of every compassionate heart, evoking sorrow and even prompting tears. The total number of sections crafted within it amounts to twenty-seven.' ।। 1-2-194 ।।

'Here, there are seven hundred verses, and it is said to have been composed by the illustrious author Vyasa in the Bharata narrative. This composition, named 'Mahabharata,' skillfully crafted by the great soul, stirs the hearts of virtuous readers, inducing a pure stream of tears.' ।। 1-2-195 ।।
