रसयग उवाच समन्तपञ्चकम इति यद उक्तं सूतनन्दन एतत सर्वं यथान्यायं शरॊतुम इच्छामहे वयम ॥ १-२-१ ॥

"The Rishis said, 'O son of Suta, we wish to hear a full and circumstantial account of the place mentioned by you as Samanta panchaya.' ॥ 1-2-1 ॥

english translation

rasayaga uvAca samantapaJcakama iti yada uktaM sUtanandana etata sarvaM yathAnyAyaM zaròtuma icchAmahe vayama ॥ 1-2-1 ॥

[स] शुश्रूषा यदि वॊ विप्रा बरुवतश च कथाः शुभाः समन्तपञ्चकाख्यं च शरॊतुम अर्हथ सत्तमाः ॥ १-२-२ ॥

"Sauti began, "Pay heed, venerable Brahmanas, to the sacred tales I share. O esteemed beings, your deserving hearts merit the revelations about the hallowed expanse called Samanta-panchaka.'॥ 1-2-2 ॥

english translation

[sa] zuzrUSA yadi vò viprA baruvataza ca kathAH zubhAH samantapaJcakAkhyaM ca zaròtuma arhatha sattamAH ॥ 1-2-2 ॥

तरेता दवापरयॊः संधौ रामः शस्त्रभृतां वरः असकृत पार्थिवं कषत्रं जघानामर्ष चॊदितः ॥ १-२-३ ॥

'During the transition from Treta to Dwapara Yuga, the illustrious Rama, son of Jamadagni and preeminent among warriors, compelled by a righteous indignation against injustice, consistently struck down the noble lineage of Kshatriyas.'॥ 1-2-3 ॥

taretA davAparayòH saMdhau rAmaH zastrabhRtAM varaH asakRta pArthivaM kaSatraM jaghAnAmarSa còditaH ॥ 1-2-3 ॥

स सर्वं कषत्रम उत्साद्य सववीर्येणानल दयुतिः समन्तपञ्चके पञ्च चकार रुधिरह्रदान ॥ १-२-४ ॥

'Having vanquished the entire Kshatriya race with his incomparable prowess, the fiery warrior Parashurama caused the Samanta-panchaka region to become akin to an ocean of blood.'॥ 1-2-4 ॥

sa sarvaM kaSatrama utsAdya savavIryeNAnala dayutiH samantapaJcake paJca cakAra rudhirahradAna ॥ 1-2-4 ॥

स तेषु रुधिराम्भःसु हरदेषु करॊधमूर्च्छितः पितॄन संतर्पयाम आस रुधिरेणेति नः शरुतम ॥ १-२-५ ॥

'We are told that his reason being overpowered by anger he offered oblations of blood to the manes of his ancestors, standing amidthe sanguine waters of those lakes.'॥ 1-2-5 ॥

sa teSu rudhirAmbhaHsu haradeSu karòdhamUrcchitaH pitRRna saMtarpayAma Asa rudhireNeti naH zarutama ॥ 1-2-5 ॥
