[विदुर] राजन निःसंशयं शरेयॊ वाच्यस तवम असि बान्धवैः न तव अशुश्रूषमाणेषु वाक्यं संप्रतितिष्ठति ।। १-१९७-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana continued, 'After Drona had finished speaking, Vidura addressed the monarch, saying, "O king, undoubtedly your friends are advising you for your own good. However, since you are reluctant to heed their counsel, their words find little place in your ears."' ।। 1-197-1 ।।

english translation

[vidura] rAjana niHsaMzayaM zareyò vAcyasa tavama asi bAndhavaiH na tava azuzrUSamANeSu vAkyaM saMpratitiSThati || 1-197-1 ||

hk transliteration

हितं हि तव तद वाक्यम उक्तवान कुरुसत्तमः भीष्मः शांतनवॊ राजन परतिगृह्णासि तन न च ।। १-१९७-२ ।।

sanskrit

'Bhishma, the eminent scion of Kuru's lineage, son of Santanu, has spoken wisely and for your benefit. Yet, you choose not to heed his counsel.' ।। 1-197-2 ।।

english translation

hitaM hi tava tada vAkyama uktavAna kurusattamaH bhISmaH zAMtanavò rAjana paratigRhNAsi tana na ca || 1-197-2 ||

hk transliteration

तथा दरॊणेन बहुधा भाषितं हितम उत्तमम तच च राधा सुतः कर्णॊ मन्यते न हितं तव ।। १-१९७-३ ।।

sanskrit

'The preceptor Drona has also offered much beneficial advice for you. However, Karna, the son of Radha, does not consider it to be so.' ।। 1-197-3 ।।

english translation

tathA daròNena bahudhA bhASitaM hitama uttamama taca ca rAdhA sutaH karNò manyate na hitaM tava || 1-197-3 ||

hk transliteration

चिन्तयंश च न पश्यामि राजंस तव सुहृत्तमम आभ्यां पुरुषसिंहाभ्यां यॊ वा सयात परज्ञयाधिकः ।। १-१९७-४ ।।

sanskrit

'But, O king, upon deep reflection, I find no one who could be a better friend to you than these two lions among men, Bhishma and Drona, or anyone who surpasses them in wisdom.' ।। 1-197-4 ।।

english translation

cintayaMza ca na pazyAmi rAjaMsa tava suhRttamama AbhyAM puruSasiMhAbhyAM yò vA sayAta parajJayAdhikaH || 1-197-4 ||

hk transliteration

इमौ हि वृद्धौ वयसा परज्ञया च शरुतेन च समौ च तवयि राजेन्द्र तेषु पाण्डुसुतेषु च ।। १-१९७-५ ।।

sanskrit

'These two elders, advanced in age, wisdom, and knowledge, always regard you, O king, and the sons of Pandu equally.' ।। 1-197-5 ।।

english translation

imau hi vRddhau vayasA parajJayA ca zarutena ca samau ca tavayi rAjendra teSu pANDusuteSu ca || 1-197-5 ||
