[सू] ततॊ रजन्यां वयुष्टायां परभात उदिते रवौ कद्रूश च विनता चैव भगिन्यौ ते तपॊधन ॥ १-१९-१ ॥

'Sauti narrated, "As the night faded away and the morning sun graced the sky, O esteemed one adorned with the wealth of asceticism, the two sisters, Kadru and Vinata, came into the scene."' ॥ 1-19-1 ॥

english translation

[sU] tatò rajanyAM vayuSTAyAM parabhAta udite ravau kadrUza ca vinatA caiva bhaginyau te tapòdhana ॥ 1-19-1 ॥

अमर्षिते सुसंरब्धे दास्ये कृतपणे तदा जग्मतुस तुरगं दरष्टुम उच्छैः शरवसम अन्तिकात ॥ १-१९-२ ॥

'Having placed a bet concerning servitude, they hurriedly and eagerly went to observe the horse Uchchaishravas from a close vantage point.' ॥ 1-19-2 ॥

amarSite susaMrabdhe dAsye kRtapaNe tadA jagmatusa turagaM daraSTuma ucchaiH zaravasama antikAta ॥ 1-19-2 ॥

ददृशाते तदा तत्र समुद्रं निधिम अम्भसाम तिमिंगिलझषाकीर्णं मकरैर आवृतं तथा ॥ १-१९-३ ॥

'As they proceeded on their journey, they encountered the mighty Ocean, a vast and profound expanse of water, undulating with immense waves and resounding with thunderous roars. It was populated with fishes of such size that they could easily engulf a whale.' ॥ 1-19-3 ॥

dadRzAte tadA tatra samudraM nidhima ambhasAma timiMgilajhaSAkIrNaM makaraira AvRtaM tathA ॥ 1-19-3 ॥

सत्त्वैश च बहुसाहस्रैर नानारूपैः समावृतम उग्रैर नित्यम अनाधृष्यं कूर्मग्राहसमाकुलम ॥ १-१९-४ ॥

'Teeming with thousands of massive makaras and diverse creatures, it became impenetrable due to the formidable presence of other dreadful aquatic beings—dark and ferocious monsters, filled with tortoises and crocodiles.' ॥ 1-19-4 ॥

sattvaiza ca bahusAhasraira nAnArUpaiH samAvRtama ugraira nityama anAdhRSyaM kUrmagrAhasamAkulama ॥ 1-19-4 ॥

आकरं सर्वरत्नानाम आलयं वरुणस्य च नागानाम आलयं रम्यम उत्तमं सरितां पतिम ॥ १-१९-५ ॥

'It is the repository of various gems, the divine residence of Varuna, the splendid and charming abode of the Nagas, the sovereign of all rivers.' ॥ 1-19-5 ॥
