स चापि केशौ हरिर उद्बबर्ह; शुक्लम एकम अपरं चापि कृष्णम तौ चापि केशौ विशतां यदूनां; कुले सथिरौ रॊहिणीं देवकीं च तयॊर एकॊ बलदेवॊ बभूव; कृष्णॊ दवितीयः केशवः संबभूव ।। १-१८९-३१ ।।

sanskrit

'And Hari (Narayana) plucked two hairs from his body, one black and the other white. And those two hairs entered the wombs of two women of the Yadu race, named Devaki and Rohini. The white hair became Baladeva, while the black hair manifested as Krishna, also known as Kesava.' ।। 1-189-31 ।।

english translation

sa cApi kezau harira udbabarha; zuklama ekama aparaM cApi kRSNama tau cApi kezau vizatAM yadUnAM; kule sathirau ròhiNIM devakIM ca tayòra ekò baladevò babhUva; kRSNò davitIyaH kezavaH saMbabhUva || 1-189-31 ||

ये ते पूर्वं शक्र रूपा निरुद्धास; तस्यां दर्यां पर्वतस्यॊत्तरस्य इहैव ते पाण्डवा वीर्यवन्तः; शक्रस्यांशः पाण्डवः सव्यसाची ।। १-१८९-३२ ।।

sanskrit

'Furthermore, the Indras of old, who had been confined in a cave on the Himavat, are none other than the sons of Pandu, endowed with great energy. Among the Pandavas, Arjuna, also known as Savyasachin for his ability to use both hands with equal skill, is a portion of Sakra.' ।। 1-189-32 ।।

english translation

ye te pUrvaM zakra rUpA niruddhAsa; tasyAM daryAM parvatasyòttarasya ihaiva te pANDavA vIryavantaH; zakrasyAMzaH pANDavaH savyasAcI || 1-189-32 ||

एवम एते पाण्डवाः संबभूवुर; ये ते राजन पूर्वम इन्द्रा बभूवुः लक्ष्मीश चैषां पूर्वम एवॊपदिष्टा; भार्यां यैषा दरौपदी दिव्यरूपा ।। १-१८९-३३ ।।

sanskrit

'Vyasa continued, "Thus, O King, those who have been born as the Pandavas are none other than the Indras of old. The celestial Sri, who had been destined to be their wife, is none other than the extraordinarily beautiful Draupadi."' ।। 1-189-33 ।।

english translation

evama ete pANDavAH saMbabhUvura; ye te rAjana pUrvama indrA babhUvuH lakSmIza caiSAM pUrvama evòpadiSTA; bhAryAM yaiSA daraupadI divyarUpA || 1-189-33 ||

कथं हि सत्री कर्मणॊ ऽनते महीतलात; समुत्थिष्ठेद अन्यतॊ दैवयॊगात यस्या रूपं सॊमसूर्यप्रकाशं; गन्धश चाग्र्यः करॊशमात्रात परवाति ।। १-१८९-३४ ।।

sanskrit

'How could she, whose effulgence is like that of the sun or the moon and whose fragrance spreads for two miles, take birth in any ordinary way? She emerged from within the earth by virtue of the sacrificial rites.' ।। 1-189-34 ।।

english translation

kathaM hi satrI karmaNò 'nate mahItalAta; samutthiSTheda anyatò daivayògAta yasyA rUpaM sòmasUryaprakAzaM; gandhaza cAgryaH karòzamAtrAta paravAti || 1-189-34 ||

इदं चान्यत परीतिपूर्वं नरेन्द्र; ददामि ते वरम अत्यद्भुतं च दिव्यं चक्षुः पश्य कुन्तीसुतांस तवं; पुण्यैर दिव्यैः पूर्वदेहैर उपेतान ।। १-१८९-३५ ।।

sanskrit

'And now, O king, with great pleasure, I grant you another extraordinary boon. With divine vision, behold the sons of Kunti in their sacred and celestial forms of old, endowed with their virtuous, divine bodies.' ।। 1-189-35 ।।

idaM cAnyata parItipUrvaM narendra; dadAmi te varama atyadbhutaM ca divyaM cakSuH pazya kuntIsutAMsa tavaM; puNyaira divyaiH pUrvadehaira upetAna || 1-189-35 ||
