आगन्तारः पुनर एवेन्द्र लॊकं; सवकर्मणा पूर्वजितं महार्हम सर्वं मया भाषितम एतद एवं; कर्तव्यम अन्यद विविधार्थवच च ।। १-१८९-२६ ।।

sanskrit

'You shall accomplish all I have said, and much more besides of other kinds of work," proclaimed the speaker. Then those Indras, diminished in glory, responded: "We shall depart from our celestial realms and descend even unto the human realm, where salvation is ordained to be arduous to attain.' ।। 1-189-26 ।।

english translation

AgantAraH punara evendra lòkaM; savakarmaNA pUrvajitaM mahArhama sarvaM mayA bhASitama etada evaM; kartavyama anyada vividhArthavaca ca || 1-189-26 ||

hk transliteration

[पूर्वैन्द्राह] गमिष्यामॊ मानुषं देवलॊकाद; दुराधरॊ विहितॊ यत्र मॊक्षः देवास तव अस्मान आदधीरञ जनन्यां; धर्मॊ वायुर मघवान अश्विनौ च ।। १-१८९-२७ ।।

sanskrit

'The former Indras said: "We shall go to the human world from the divine realm, where liberation is ordained to be extremely difficult to attain. May the gods Dharma, Vayu, Indra, and the twin Ashvins protect us there, O progenitor!"' ।। 1-189-27 ।।

english translation

[pUrvaindrAha] gamiSyAmò mAnuSaM devalòkAda; durAdharò vihitò yatra mòkSaH devAsa tava asmAna AdadhIraJa jananyAM; dharmò vAyura maghavAna azvinau ca || 1-189-27 ||

hk transliteration

[वयास] एतच छरुत्वा वज्रपाणिर वचस तु; देव शरेष्ठं पुनर एवेदम आह वीर्येणाहं पुरुषं कार्यहेतॊर; दद्याम एषां पञ्चमं मत्प्रसूतम ।। १-१८९-२८ ।।

sanskrit

'Vyasa continued, "Hearing these words of the former Indras, the wielder of the thunderbolt once more addressed the foremost of gods, saying, 'Instead of going myself, I shall create a person from a portion of my own energy to accomplish the assigned task, forming the fifth among these!'" ।। 1-189-28 ।।

english translation

[vayAsa] etaca charutvA vajrapANira vacasa tu; deva zareSThaM punara evedama Aha vIryeNAhaM puruSaM kAryahetòra; dadyAma eSAM paJcamaM matprasUtama || 1-189-28 ||

hk transliteration

तेषां कामं भगवान उग्रधन्वा; परादाद इष्टं सन्निसर्गाद यथॊक्तम तां चाप्य एषां यॊषितं लॊककान्तां; शरियं भार्यां वयदधान मानुषेषु ।। १-१८९-२९ ।।

sanskrit

'It is said that Vishwabhuk, Bhutadhaman, the great energy possessed Sivi, Santi the fourth, and Tejaswin were the five ancient Indras. The illustrious god of the formidable bow, out of his kindness, granted to these five Indras the desire they cherished. And he also appointed that woman of extraordinary beauty, who was none other than the celestial Sri (goddess of grace) herself, to be their common wife in the human world.' ।। 1-189-29 ।।

english translation

teSAM kAmaM bhagavAna ugradhanvA; parAdAda iSTaM sannisargAda yathòktama tAM cApya eSAM yòSitaM lòkakAntAM; zariyaM bhAryAM vayadadhAna mAnuSeSu || 1-189-29 ||

hk transliteration

तैर एव सार्धं तु ततः स देवॊ; जगाम नारायणम अप्रमेयम स चापि तद वयदधात सर्वम एव; ततः सर्वे संबभूवुर धरण्याम ।। १-१८९-३० ।।

sanskrit

'Then, together with them, that very god Indra went to the immeasurable Narayana. And Narayana himself also ordained all of that. After that, they all took birth on the earth.' ।। 1-189-30 ।।

english translation

taira eva sArdhaM tu tataH sa devò; jagAma nArAyaNama aprameyama sa cApi tada vayadadhAta sarvama eva; tataH sarve saMbabhUvura dharaNyAma || 1-189-30 ||
