[वै] ततस तथॊक्तः परिहृष्टरूपः; पित्रे शशंसाथ स राजपुत्रः धृष्टद्युम्नः सॊमकानां परबर्हॊ; वृत्तं यथा येन हृता च कृष्णा ॥ १-१८५-१ ॥

'Vaiśampāyana said, "Thus addressed, Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the foremost of the Lunar princes, cheerfully narrated to his father everything that had transpired and revealed who had won Krishna."' ॥ 1-185-1 ॥

english translation

[vai] tatasa tathòktaH parihRSTarUpaH; pitre zazaMsAtha sa rAjaputraH dhRSTadyumnaH sòmakAnAM parabarhò; vRttaM yathA yena hRtA ca kRSNA ॥ 1-185-1 ॥

यॊ ऽसौ युवस्वायत लॊहिताक्षः; कृष्णाजिनी देवसमानरूपः यः कार्मुकाग्र्यं कृतवान अधिज्यं; लक्ष्यं च तत पतितवान पृथिव्याम ॥ १-१८५-२ ॥

'And the prince said, "With large, red eyes, clad in deer-skin, and possessing celestial beauty, the youth who strung that foremost of bows and brought down the target set high on the ground."' ॥ 1-185-2 ॥

english translation

yò 'sau yuvasvAyata lòhitAkSaH; kRSNAjinI devasamAnarUpaH yaH kArmukAgryaM kRtavAna adhijyaM; lakSyaM ca tata patitavAna pRthivyAma ॥ 1-185-2 ॥

असज्जमानश च गतस तरस्वी; वृतॊ दविजाग्र्यैर अभिपूज्यमानः चक्राम वज्रीव दितेः सुतेषु; सर्वैश च देवैर ऋषिभिश च जुष्टः ॥ १-१८५-३ ॥

'And the illustrious one, surrounded and revered By the foremost Brahmins, like the thunderbolt among the rays of the sun, Proceeded, honored by all the gods and sages.' ॥ 1-185-3 ॥

english translation

asajjamAnaza ca gatasa tarasvI; vRtò davijAgryaira abhipUjyamAnaH cakrAma vajrIva diteH suteSu; sarvaiza ca devaira RSibhiza ca juSTaH ॥ 1-185-3 ॥

कृष्णा च गृह्याजिनम अन्वयात तं; नागं यथा नागवधूः परहृष्टा अमृष्यमाणेषु नराधिपेषु; करुद्धेषु तं तत्र समापतत्सु ॥ १-१८५-४ ॥

'Surrounded by the Brahmanas, he resembled thunder-wielding Indra amidst the celestial beings and sages. Cheerfully following that youth, Krishna caught hold of his deer-skin attire like a she-elephant following the leader of a herd.' ॥ 1-185-4 ॥

kRSNA ca gRhyAjinama anvayAta taM; nAgaM yathA nAgavadhUH parahRSTA amRSyamANeSu narAdhipeSu; karuddheSu taM tatra samApatatsu ॥ 1-185-4 ॥

ततॊ ऽपरः पार्थिव राजमध्ये; परवृद्धम आरुज्य मही पररॊहम परकालयन्न एव स पार्थिवौघान; करुद्धॊ ऽनतकः पराणभृतॊ यथैव ॥ १-१८५-५ ॥

'When the assembled monarchs, unable to bear that sight, rose up in wrath and advanced for battle, another hero emerged. He tore up a large tree and rushed at the gathering of kings, striking them down like Yama himself, who smites down living beings.' ॥ 1-185-5 ॥

tatò 'paraH pArthiva rAjamadhye; paravRddhama Arujya mahI pararòhama parakAlayanna eva sa pArthivaughAna; karuddhò 'natakaH parANabhRtò yathaiva ॥ 1-185-5 ॥
