एवम उक्तस तु राधेयॊ युद्धात कर्णॊ नयवर्तत बरह्मं तेजस तदाजय्यं मन्यमानॊ महारथः ॥ १-१८१-२१ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "Thus addressed by Arjuna, Karna, the adopted son of Radha, ceased fighting, believing that the power of Brahmanas is always invincible."' ॥ 1-181-21 ॥
english translation
evama uktasa tu rAdheyò yuddhAta karNò nayavartata barahmaM tejasa tadAjayyaM manyamAnò mahArathaH ॥ 1-181-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयुद्धं तूपेयतुस तत्र राजञ शल्य वृकॊदरौ बलिनौ युगपन मत्तौ सपर्धया च बलेन च ॥ १-१८१-२२ ॥
'Meanwhile, on another part of the battlefield, the mighty heroes Shalya and Bhima, skilled in battle and endowed with great strength and prowess, confronted each other.' ॥ 1-181-22 ॥

yuddhaM tUpeyatusa tatra rAjaJa zalya vRkòdarau balinau yugapana mattau sapardhayA ca balena ca ॥ 1-181-22 ॥

'They summoned each other fiercely, like two mighty elephants in rut, striking with fists and knees, relentlessly pounding one another, as they grappled fiercely in battle for a long while.' ॥ 1-181-23 ॥

'They clashed with blows as powerful as the collision of two masses of granite, resonating through the arena with the sounds of their combat.' ॥ 1-181-24 ॥

tatò bhImaH samutkSipya bAhubhyAM zalyama Ahave nayavadhIda balinAM zareSThò jahasura barAhmaNAsa tataH ॥ 1-181-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्राश्चर्यं भीमसेनश चकार पुरुषर्षभः यच छल्यं पतितं भूमौ नाहनद बलिनं बली ॥ १-१८१-२५ ॥
'After fighting fiercely for a brief moment, Bhima, the foremost among the Kuru heroes, lifted Salya in his arms and threw him a distance away. Bhimasena, the formidable warrior, astonished everyone with his skill, as he managed to hurl Salya to the ground without causing him significant harm.' ॥ 1-181-25 ॥
