सज्यं च चक्रे निमिषान्तरेण; शरांश च जग्राह दशार्ध संख्यान विव्याध लक्ष्यं निपपात तच च; छिद्रेण भूमौ सहसातिविद्धम ॥ १-१७९-१६ ॥
'Arjuna, the son of Indra, that foremost among those endowed with energy, and resembling the younger brother of Indra (Vishnu) in strength, strung in the twinkling of an eye. And taking up the five arrows, he shot at the target and caused it to fall on the ground through the hole in the target stand where it had been placed.' ॥ 1-179-16 ॥

sajyaM ca cakre nimiSAntareNa; zarAMza ca jagrAha dazArdha saMkhyAna vivyAdha lakSyaM nipapAta taca ca; chidreNa bhUmau sahasAtividdhama ॥ 1-179-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ ऽनतरिक्षे च बभूव नादः; समाजमध्ये च महान निनादः पुष्पाणि दिव्यानि ववर्ष देवः; पार्थस्य मूर्ध्नि दविषतां निहन्तुः ॥ १-१७९-१७ ॥
'Then a loud uproar echoed through the sky, and the arena resounded with a clamor. The gods showered celestial flowers upon the head of Partha, the vanquisher of enemies.' ॥ 1-179-17 ॥
english translation
tatò 'natarikSe ca babhUva nAdaH; samAjamadhye ca mahAna ninAdaH puSpANi divyAni vavarSa devaH; pArthasya mUrdhni daviSatAM nihantuH ॥ 1-179-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptचेला वेधांस ततश चक्रुर हाहाकारांश च सर्वशः नयपतंश चात्र नभसः समन्तात पुष्पवृष्टयः ॥ १-१७९-१८ ॥
'And thousands of Brahmanas began waving their upper garments in joy. Meanwhile, all around the amphitheatre, the unsuccessful monarchs uttered exclamations of grief and despair. Flowers rained down from the skies, covering the entire arena.' ॥ 1-179-18 ॥

celA vedhAMsa tataza cakrura hAhAkArAMza ca sarvazaH nayapataMza cAtra nabhasaH samantAta puSpavRSTayaH ॥ 1-179-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशताङ्गानि च तूर्याणि वादकाश चाप्य अवादयन सूतमागध संघाश च अस्तुवंस तत्र सुस्वनाः ॥ १-१७९-१९ ॥
'And the musicians played in harmony. Bards and heralds began to chant sweet praises of the hero who accomplished the feat.' ॥ 1-179-19 ॥

zatAGgAni ca tUryANi vAdakAza cApya avAdayana sUtamAgadha saMghAza ca astuvaMsa tatra susvanAH ॥ 1-179-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतं दृष्ट्वा दरुपदः परीतॊ बभूवारि निषूदनः सहसैन्यश च पार्थस्य साहाय्यार्थम इयेष सः ॥ १-१७९-२० ॥
'And upon seeing Arjuna, Drupada, the vanquisher of enemies, was filled with joy. The monarch resolved to lend his forces to the hero whenever the need arose.' ॥ 1-179-20 ॥
