भृगवस तु ददुः के चित तेषां वित्तं यथेप्सितम कषत्रियाणां तदा तात कारणान्तर दर्शनात ॥ १-१६९-१६ ॥
'However, it so happened that some Kshatriyas, while digging as they wished in the residence of a certain Bhargava, stumbled upon a large treasure.' ॥ 1-169-16 ॥
english translation
ततॊ महीतलं तात कषत्रियेण यदृच्छया खानताधिगतं वित्तं केन चिद भृगुवेश्मनि तद वित्तं ददृशुः सर्वे समेताः कषत्रियर्षभाः ॥ १-१६९-१७ ॥
'Then, by chance, O son, the Kshatriya found wealth under the earth in the house of a certain Bhargava. All the chief Kshatriyas together saw that wealth.' ॥ 1-169-17 ॥

अवमन्य ततः कॊपाद भृगूंस ताञ शरणागतान निजघ्नुस ते महेष्वासाः सर्वांस तान निशितैः शरैः आ गर्भाद अनुकृन्तन्तश चेरुश चैव वसुंधराम ॥ १-१६९-१८ ॥
'Enraged by what they perceived as deceitful behavior by the Bhrigus, the Kshatriyas insulted the Brahmanas, despite their pleas for mercy. Then, those mighty warriors commenced slaughtering the Bhrigus with their sharp arrows. They roamed across the earth, even killing the unborn embryos in the wombs of the women of the Bhrigu lineage.' ॥ 1-169-18 ॥

तत उच्छिद्यमानेषु भृगुष्व एवं भयात तदा भृगुपत्न्यॊ गिरिं तात हिमवन्तं परपेदिरे ॥ १-१६९-१९ ॥
'As the Bhrigu lineage faced annihilation, the women of the tribe sought refuge out of fear in the remote mountains of Himavat.' ॥ 1-169-19 ॥

तासाम अन्यतमा गर्भं भयाद दाधार तैजसम ऊरुणैकेन वामॊरुर भर्तुः कुलविवृद्धये ददृशुर बराह्मणीं तां ते दीप्यमानां सवतेजसा ॥ १-१६९-२० ॥
'One of these women, with slender thighs, wishing to continue her husband's lineage, carried an embryo of great energy in one of her thighs. But a Brahmana woman, who came to know of this, went out of fear to the Kshatriyas and informed them of the matter.' ॥ 1-169-20 ॥
