[वस] कृतवीर्य इति खयातॊ बभूव नृपतिः कषितौ याज्यॊ वेदविदां लॊके भृगूणां पार्थिवर्षभः ॥ १-१६९-११ ॥

'Continuing, the Gandharva said, 'Then Vasishtha spoke, 'There once was a renowned king named Kritavirya. He was the disciple of the Veda-knowing Bhrigus and the foremost among the kings of the earth.' ॥ 1-169-11 ॥

[vasa] kRtavIrya iti khayAtò babhUva nRpatiH kaSitau yAjyò vedavidAM lòke bhRgUNAM pArthivarSabhaH ॥ 1-169-11 ॥

स तान अग्रभुजस तात धान्येन च धनेन च सॊमान्ते तर्पयाम आस विपुलेन विशां पतिः ॥ १-१६९-१२ ॥

'After conducting the Soma sacrifice, that king, O child, pleased the Brahmanas with generous offerings of rice and wealth.' ॥ 1-169-12 ॥

sa tAna agrabhujasa tAta dhAnyena ca dhanena ca sòmAnte tarpayAma Asa vipulena vizAM patiH ॥ 1-169-12 ॥

तस्मिन नृपतिशार्दूले सवर्याते ऽथ कदा चन बभूव तत कुलेयानां दरव्यकार्यम उपस्थितम ॥ १-१६९-१३ ॥

'After the demise of that monarch, there arose a time when his descendants faced a shortage of wealth.' ॥ 1-169-13 ॥

ते भृगूणां धनं जञात्वा राजानः सर्व एव ह याचिष्णवॊ ऽभिजग्मुस तांस तात भार्गव सत्तमान ॥ १-१६९-१४ ॥

'Aware of the wealth of the Bhrigus, those princes approached the best of Brahmanas in the guise of beggars.' ॥ 1-169-14 ॥

te bhRgUNAM dhanaM jaJAtvA rAjAnaH sarva eva ha yAciSNavò 'bhijagmusa tAMsa tAta bhArgava sattamAna ॥ 1-169-14 ॥

भूमौ तु निदधुः के चिद भृगवॊ धनभक्षयम ददुः के चिद दविजातिभ्यॊ जञात्वा कषत्रियतॊ भयम ॥ १-१६९-१५ ॥

'Some among the Bhrigus, to safeguard their riches, buried them underground; others, fearing the Kshatriyas, began to distribute their wealth to other Brahmanas, while some of them willingly gave whatever the Kshatriyas requested.' ॥ 1-169-15 ॥

bhUmau tu nidadhuH ke cida bhRgavò dhanabhakSayama daduH ke cida davijAtibhyò jaJAtvA kaSatriyatò bhayama ॥ 1-169-15 ॥
