एवम उक्त्वा ततः सद्यस तं पराणैर विप्रयुज्य सः शक्तिनं भक्षयाम आस वयाघ्रः पशुम इवेप्सितम ॥ १-१६६-३६ ॥
'Having spoken thus, the king promptly killed Saktri and consumed him, akin to a tiger devouring its favored prey.' ॥ 1-166-36 ॥
english translation
evama uktvA tataH sadyasa taM parANaira viprayujya saH zaktinaM bhakSayAma Asa vayAghraH pazuma ivepsitama ॥ 1-166-36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशक्तिनं तु हतं दृष्ट्वा विश्वामित्रस ततः पुनः वसिष्ठस्यैव पुत्रेषु तद रक्षः संदिदेश ह ॥ १-१६६-३७ ॥
'Witnessing Saktri's demise and consumption, Viswamitra continuously urged the Rakshasa within the king to target the other sons of Vasishtha.' ॥ 1-166-37 ॥

zaktinaM tu hataM dRSTvA vizvAmitrasa tataH punaH vasiSThasyaiva putreSu tada rakSaH saMdideza ha ॥ 1-166-37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस ताञ शतावरान पुत्रान वसिष्ठस्य महात्मनः भक्षयाम आस संक्रुद्धः सिंहः कषुद्रमृगान इव ॥ १-१६६-३८ ॥
'Similar to a ferocious lion consuming its prey, the Rakshasa swiftly devoured the younger sons of the renowned Vasishtha, following the pattern of his attack on Saktri.' ॥ 1-166-38 ॥

sa tAJa zatAvarAna putrAna vasiSThasya mahAtmanaH bhakSayAma Asa saMkruddhaH siMhaH kaSudramRgAna iva ॥ 1-166-38 ॥

'Upon learning that all his sons had been slain by Viswamitra, Vasishtha stoically endured his grief, akin to the great mountain that supports the earth.' ॥ 1-166-39 ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptचक्रे चात्मविनाशाय बुद्धिं स मुनिसत्तमः न तव एव कुशिकॊच्छेदं मेने मतिमतां वरः ॥ १-१६६-४० ॥
'That foremost of sages, the pinnacle of wisdom, chose to sacrifice his own life rather than eradicate the lineage of Kusikas in a fit of anger.' ॥ 1-166-40 ॥
