तस्य भावं विदित्वा स नृपतेः कुरुनन्दन विश्वामित्रस ततॊ रक्ष आदिदेश नृपं परति ॥ १-१६६-१६ ॥
'O Arjuna, pride of the Kuru lineage, the sage Vishwamitra, perceiving the depths of King Kalmashapada's remorseful state, took a startling action—he summoned a rakshasa and directed it towards the penitent king.' ॥ 1-166-16 ॥

स शापात तस्य विप्रर्षेर विश्वामित्रस्य चाज्ञया राक्षसाः किंकरॊ नाम विवेश नृपतिं तदा ॥ १-१६६-१७ ॥
'In a chilling convergence of mystical forces, the rakshasa named Kinkara, impelled by the dual imperatives of Sage Shakti's dire curse and Sage Vishwamitra's potent command, took possession of the beleaguered King Kalmashapada.' ॥ 1-166-17 ॥

रक्षसा तु गृहीतं तं विदित्वा सा मुनिस तदा विश्वामित्रॊ ऽपय अपक्रामत तस्माद देशाद अरिंदम ॥ १-१६६-१८ ॥
'And, O chastiser of foes, knowing that the Rakshasa had possessed the monarch, the esteemed Rishi Viswamitra departed from that spot and went away.' ॥ 1-166-18 ॥

ततः स नृपतिर विद्वान रक्षन्न आत्मानम आत्मना बलवत पीड्यमानॊ ऽपि रक्षसान्तर गतेन ह ॥ १-१६६-१९ ॥
'Shortly after, O Partha, the monarch, possessed by the Rakshasa and terribly afflicted by him, lost all his senses.' ॥ 1-166-19 ॥

ददर्श तं दविजः कश चिद राजानं परथितं पुनः ययाचे कषुधितश चैनं समांसां भॊजनं तदा ॥ १-१६६-२० ॥
'At that moment, a Brahmin encountered the king in the woods. Stricken by hunger, the Brahmin implored the king for some food, specifically meat.' ॥ 1-166-20 ॥
