तस्मिंश च भराम्यमाणे ऽदरौ संघृष्यन्तः परस्परम नयपतन पतगॊपेताः पर्वताग्रान महाद्रुमाः ॥ १-१६-२१ ॥
'And many denizens of the lower regions and the world of Varuna were killed. Large trees with birds on the whirling Mandara were torn up by the roots and fell into the water.' ॥ 1-16-21 ॥
english translation
tasmiMza ca bharAmyamANe 'darau saMghRSyantaH parasparama nayapatana patagòpetAH parvatAgrAna mahAdrumAH ॥ 1-16-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेषां संघर्षजश चाग्निर अर्चिर्भिः परज्वलन मुहुः विद्युद्भिर इव नीलाभ्रम आवृणॊन मन्दरं गिरिम ॥ १-१६-२२ ॥
'The mutual friction of those trees also produced fires that blazed up frequently. The mountain thus looked like a mass of dark clouds charged with lightning.'॥ 1-16-22 ॥
english translation
teSAM saMgharSajaza cAgnira arcirbhiH parajvalana muhuH vidyudbhira iva nIlAbhrama AvRNòna mandaraM girima ॥ 1-16-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptददाह कुञ्जरांश चैव सिंहांश चैव विनिःसृतान विगतासूनि सर्वाणि सत्त्वानि विविधानि च ॥ १-१६-२३ ॥
'O Brahmana, the fire spread, and consumed the lions, elephants and other creatures that were on the mountain.' ॥ 1-16-23 ॥

dadAha kuJjarAMza caiva siMhAMza caiva viniHsRtAna vigatAsUni sarvANi sattvAni vividhAni ca ॥ 1-16-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतम अग्निम अमर शरेष्ठः परदहन्तं ततस ततः वारिणा मेघजेनेन्द्रः शमयाम आस सर्वतः ॥ १-१६-२४ ॥
'Then Indra extinguished that fire by pouring down heavy showers.' ॥ 1-16-24 ॥

tama agnima amara zareSThaH paradahantaM tatasa tataH vAriNA meghajenendraH zamayAma Asa sarvataH ॥ 1-16-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ नानाविधास तत्र सुस्रुवुः सागराम्भसि महाद्रुमाणां निर्यासा बहवश चौषधी रसाः ॥ १-१६-२५ ॥
'After the churning process had persisted for a while, resinous secretions from various trees and herbs, imbued with the properties of amrita, blended with the waters of the Ocean, O Brahmana.' ॥ 1-16-25 ॥

tatò nAnAvidhAsa tatra susruvuH sAgarAmbhasi mahAdrumANAM niryAsA bahavaza cauSadhI rasAH ॥ 1-16-25 ॥
