[बर] स विनिश्चित्य मनसा पाञ्चाल्यं परति बुद्धिमान जगाम कुरुमुख्यानां नगरं नागसाह्वयम ॥ १-१५४-१६ ॥
'The Brahmana continued, 'Drona, endowed with great intelligence, was deeply aggrieved by this. Determined to find a way to humble the king of Panchala, he set his mind on a plan and went to the capital of the Kurus, a city named after an elephant.'' ॥ 1-154-16 ॥
english translation
तस्मै पौत्रान समादाय वसूनि विविधानि च पराप्ताय परददौ भीष्मः शिष्यान दरॊणाय धीमते ॥ १-१५४-१७ ॥
'Then Bhishma, bringing his grandsons along, presented them to the wise son of Bharadwaja, Drona, as his pupils for instruction, along with various kinds of wealth.' ॥ 1-154-17 ॥
english translation
दरॊणः शिष्यांस ततः सर्वान इदं वचनम अब्रवीत समानीय तदा विद्वान दरुपदस्यासुखाय वै ॥ १-१५४-१८ ॥
'Drona then gathered all his disciples and said these words, intending to bring misfortune to Drupada.' ॥ 1-154-18 ॥

आचार्य वेतनं किं चिद धृदि संपरिवर्तते कृतास्त्रैस तत परदेयं सयात तद ऋतं वदतानघाः ॥ १-१५४-१९ ॥
'O revered Teacher, is there a fixed compensation that rightfully belongs to you? It is said that whatever is offered should be by truth to those who speak.' ॥ 1-154-19 ॥
english translation
यदा च पाण्डवाः सर्वे कृतास्त्राः कृतनिश्रमाः ततॊ दरॊणॊ ऽबरवीद भूयॊ वेतनार्थम इदं वचः ॥ १-१५४-२० ॥
'After some time, when the Pandavas had become skilled in arms and accurate in their aims, Drona reminded them of his fee.' ॥ 1-154-20 ॥
