पार्षतॊ दरुपदॊ नाम छत्रवत्यां नरेश्वरः तस्यापकृष्य तद राज्यं मम शीघ्रं परदीयताम ।। १-१५४-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'Drupada, son of Prishata, reigns over Chhatravati. Strip him of his kingdom and bestow it upon me.' ।। 1-154-21 ।।

english translation

pArSatò darupadò nAma chatravatyAM narezvaraH tasyApakRSya tada rAjyaM mama zIghraM paradIyatAma || 1-154-21 ||

hk transliteration

ततः पाण्डुसुताः पञ्च निर्जित्य दरुपदं युधि दरॊणाय दर्शयाम आसुर बद्ध्वा ससचिवं तदा ।। १-१५४-२२ ।।

sanskrit

'Then the Pandavas, defeating Drupada in battle and taking him prisoner along with his ministers, offered him unto Drona.' ।। 1-154-22 ।।

english translation

tataH pANDusutAH paJca nirjitya darupadaM yudhi daròNAya darzayAma Asura baddhvA sasacivaM tadA || 1-154-22 ||

hk transliteration

[दरॊ] परार्थयामि तवया सख्यं पुनर एव नराधिप अराजा किल नॊ राज्ञः सखा भवितुम अर्हति ।। १-१५४-२३ ।।

sanskrit

'Seeing the defeated monarch, he said, "O king, I once again seek your friendship. As only a king merits the friendship of another king.' ।। 1-154-23 ।।

english translation

[darò] parArthayAmi tavayA sakhyaM punara eva narAdhipa arAjA kila nò rAjJaH sakhA bhavituma arhati || 1-154-23 ||

hk transliteration

अतः परयतितं राज्ये यज्ञसेन मया तव राजासि दक्षिणे कूले भागीरथ्याहम उत्तरे ।। १-१५४-२४ ।।

sanskrit

'O Yajnasena, I have decided to divide your kingdom between us. You shall remain king of the lands to the south of Bhagirathi (Ganga), while I shall rule the lands to the north.' ।। 1-154-24 ।।

english translation

ataH parayatitaM rAjye yajJasena mayA tava rAjAsi dakSiNe kUle bhAgIrathyAhama uttare || 1-154-24 ||

hk transliteration

[बर] असत्कारः स सुमहान मुहूर्तम अपि तस्य तु न वयेति हृदयाद राज्ञॊ दुर्मनाः स कृशॊ ऽभवत ।। १-१५४-२५ ।।

sanskrit

'The Brahmana continued, 'Upon being addressed by the wise son of Bharadwaja, the king of the Panchalas replied to that eminent Brahmana and unparalleled expert in weaponry, 'O noble son of Bharadwaja, so be it. Let there be an enduring friendship between us as you desire!' Thus, having exchanged these words and cemented a lasting bond, Drona and the king of Panchala, both renowned for their prowess in battle, departed to their respective abodes. However, the memory of that humiliation lingered incessantly in the king's mind. Troubled at heart, he began to waste away.' ।। 1-154-25 ।।

[bara] asatkAraH sa sumahAna muhUrtama api tasya tu na vayeti hRdayAda rAjJò durmanAH sa kRzò 'bhavata || 1-154-25 ||
