[हि] नावमन्ये नरव्याघ्र ताम अहं देवरूपिणम दृष्टापदानस तु मया मानुषेष्व एव राक्षसः ॥ १-१४०-११ ॥
'Hidimva replied, 'O tiger among men, O celestial beauty, I do not hold you in contempt. But I have witnessed the power that Rakshasas wield against men.'' ॥ 1-140-11 ॥
english translation
[वै] तथा संजल्पतस तस्य भीमसेनस्य भारत वाचः शुश्राव ताः करुद्धॊ राक्षसः पुरुषादकः ॥ १-१४०-१२ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, 'Then, O Bharata, the enraged Rakshasa, who feasted on human flesh, heard the words spoken by Bhima in that manner.'' ॥ 1-140-12 ॥

अवेक्षमाणस तस्याश च हिडिम्बॊ मानुषं वपुः सरग्दाम पूरितशिखं समग्रेन्दु निभाननम ॥ १-१४०-१३ ॥
'Hidimva observed his sister, appearing in human guise, adorned with garlands of flowers on her head, her face radiating like the full moon.' ॥ 1-140-13 ॥

सुभ्रू नासाक्षि केशान्तं सुकुमारनख तवचम सर्वाभरणसंयुक्तं सुसूक्ष्माम्बर वाससम ॥ १-१४०-१४ ॥
'Her eyebrows, nose, eyes, and curls were all exquisitely beautiful, while her nails and complexion were of the most delicate hue. She adorned herself with every kind of ornament and was clothed in fine, transparent robes.' ॥ 1-140-14 ॥

तां तथा मानुषं रूपं बिभ्रतीं सुमनॊरहम पुंस्कामां शङ्कमानश च चुक्रॊध पुरुषादकः ॥ १-१४०-१५ ॥
'The cannibal, seeing her in that enchanting human form, suspected her intentions and became furious, thinking she desired carnal intercourse.' ॥ 1-140-15 ॥
